Sa'd bin Abi Waqas said: We would do that, but then we were prohibited from it, and we were ordered to put our hands on our knees.
قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا نَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فَنُهِينَا عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَضَعَ الْأَكُفَّ عَلَى الرُّكَبِ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَعْدٍ بِهَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ اسْمُهُ:‏‏‏‏ مَالِكُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو حَصِينٍ اسْمُهُ:‏‏‏‏ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ اسْمُهُ:‏‏‏‏ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو يَعْفُورٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نِسْطَاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو يَعْفُورٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ اسْمُهُ:‏‏‏‏ وَاقِدٌ وَيُقَالُ وَقْدَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ الَّذِي رَوَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى وَكِلَاهُمَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ.
سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم لوگ ایسا کرتے تھے ( یعنی تطبیق کرتے تھے ) پھر ہمیں اس سے روک دیا گیا اور حکم دیا گیا کہ ہم ہتھیلیاں گھٹنوں پر رکھیں۔

Abbas bin Sahl [bin Sa'd] narrated: Abu Humaid, Abu Usaid, Sahl bin Sa'd, and Muhammad bin Maslamah were once together and they were mentioning the Salat of Allah's Messenger. Abu Humaid said: 'I am the most knowledgeable among you of the Salat of Allah's Messenger: Allah's Messenger would bow and place his hands on his knees as if he was grasping them, and he would draw his forearms to hold them away from his sides.'

Ibn Mas'ud narrated that : the Prophet said: When one of you bows then says while he is bowing: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim) 'Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent' three times, then he has completed his bowing. And that is the least of it. And when he prostrates and says while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High' three times, then he has completed his prostrations, and that is the least of it.'

Hudhaifah narrated that : he performed Salat with the Prophet, and that while he was bowing he would say: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim); Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent and while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High.' And he would not recite an Ayah mentioning mercy, except that he would stop and ask (for mercy), and he would not recite an Ayah mentioning punishment, except that he would stop and seek refuge (with Allah from it).
