Abu Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami said: Umar bin Al-Khattab [may Allah be pleased with him] said to us: 'The knees are the Sunnah for you, so hold the knees.'
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَصِينٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ لَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ الرُّكَبَ سُنَّتْ لَكُمْ فَخُذُوا بِالرُّكَبِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ سَعْدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي حُمَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي أُسَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ عُمَرَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ لَا اخْتِلَافَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا مَا رُوِيَ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُطَبِّقُونَ وَالتَّطْبِيقُ مَنْسُوخٌ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ.
ابوعبدالرحمٰن سلمی کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم سے عمر بن خطاب رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: گھٹنوں کو پکڑنا تمہارے لیے مسنون کیا گیا ہے، لہٰذا تم ( رکوع میں ) گھٹنے پکڑے رکھو۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- عمر رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں سعد، انس، ابواسید، سہل بن سعد، محمد بن مسلمہ اور ابومسعود رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- صحابہ کرام، تابعین اور ان کے بعد کے لوگوں میں سے اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے۔ اس سلسلے میں ان کے درمیان کوئی اختلاف نہیں۔ سوائے اس کے جو ابن مسعود اور ان کے بعض شاگردوں سے مروی ہے کہ وہ لوگ تطبیق ۱؎ کرتے تھے، اور تطبیق اہل علم کے نزدیک منسوخ ہے۔

Abbas bin Sahl [bin Sa'd] narrated: Abu Humaid, Abu Usaid, Sahl bin Sa'd, and Muhammad bin Maslamah were once together and they were mentioning the Salat of Allah's Messenger. Abu Humaid said: 'I am the most knowledgeable among you of the Salat of Allah's Messenger: Allah's Messenger would bow and place his hands on his knees as if he was grasping them, and he would draw his forearms to hold them away from his sides.'

Ibn Mas'ud narrated that : the Prophet said: When one of you bows then says while he is bowing: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim) 'Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent' three times, then he has completed his bowing. And that is the least of it. And when he prostrates and says while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High' three times, then he has completed his prostrations, and that is the least of it.'

Hudhaifah narrated that : he performed Salat with the Prophet, and that while he was bowing he would say: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim); Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent and while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High.' And he would not recite an Ayah mentioning mercy, except that he would stop and ask (for mercy), and he would not recite an Ayah mentioning punishment, except that he would stop and seek refuge (with Allah from it).
