Translation

Arabic, English and Urdu

Anas narrated: Allah's Messenger, Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman opened the Salat with (Al-Hamdu-lillahi rabbil-alamin).

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُمَرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُثْمَانُ يَفْتَتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ كَانُوا يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا مَعْنَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُثْمَانَ كَانُوا يَفْتَتِحُونَ الْقِرَاءَةَ بِ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَبْدَءُونَ بِقِرَاءَةِ فَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابَ قَبْلَ السُّورَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَيْسَ مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَقْرَءُونَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ الشَّافِعِيُّ يَرَى أَنْ يُبْدَأَ بْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 وَأَنْ يُجْهَرَ بِهَا إِذَا جُهِرَ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ.

انس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ، ابوبکر، عمر اور عثمان رضی الله عنہم «الحمد لله رب العالمين‏» سے قرأت شروع کرتے تھے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- صحابہ کرام، تابعین اور ان کے بعد کے لوگوں میں سے اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے۔ یہ لوگ «الحمد لله رب العالمين‏» سے قرأت شروع کرتے تھے۔ شافعی کہتے ہیں کہ ”نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ، ابوبکر، عمر اور عثمان رضی الله عنہم «الحمد لله رب العالمين‏» سے قرأت شروع کرتے تھے“ کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ یہ لوگ سورت سے پہلے سورۃ فاتحہ پڑھتے تھے، اس کا یہ مطلب نہیں کہ وہ «بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم» نہیں پڑھتے تھے، شافعی کی رائے ہے کہ قرأت «بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم» سے شروع کی جائے اور اسے بلند آواز سے پڑھا جائے جب قرأت جہر سے کی جائے ۱؎۔

Ubadah bin As-Samil narrated that : the Prophet said: There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.

Wa'il bin Hujr narrated: I heard the Prophet recite: (Not (the way) of those who earned Your anger, nor those who went astray) and he said: 'Amin.' And he stretched it out with his voice.

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Prophet said When the Imam says 'Amin' then (all of you) say 'Amin.' For whoever's 'Amin' concurs with the 'Amin' of the angels, then his past sins will be forgiven.

Al-Hasan narrated that : Samurah said: there are two pauses that I preserved from Allah's Messenger. But Imran bin Husain rejected that and said: We preserved one pause. So we wrote to Ubayy bin Ka'b in Al-Madinah. Ubayy wrote that Samurah was correct. Sa'eed said: We said to Qatadah: 'What are those two pauses?' He said: 'When he entered into his Salat, and when he finished his recitation.' Then he (Qatadah) said after that: 'And when he recited (Nor those who went astray.)' And he said: 'He liked to pause when he finished the recitation until he caught his breath.'
