Hilal bin Yasar said: Ziyad bin Abi Al-Ja'd took me by the hand while we were in Ar Raqqah, he made me stand before a Shaikh who was called Wabisah bin Ma'bad, from Bani Asad. Ziyad said: 'This Shaikh narrated to me that a prayed alone behind the row' - and the Shaikh was listening - 'so Allah's Messenger ordered him to repeat the Salat.'

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخَذَ زِيَادُ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ بِيَدِي وَنَحْنُ بِالرَّقَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَامَ بِي عَلَى شَيْخٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ وَابِصَةُ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ زِيَادٌ، حَدَّثَنِي هَذَا الشَّيْخُ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا صَلَّى خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ وَالشَّيْخُ يَسْمَعُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُعِيدَ الصَّلَاةَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثُ وَابِصَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ كَرِهَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ يُعِيدُ إِذَا صَلَّى خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَحْمَدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ قَالَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ يُجْزِئُهُ إِذَا صَلَّى خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ:‏‏‏‏ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالشَّافِعِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ إِلَى حَدِيثِ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ أَيْضًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ صَلَّى خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ يُعِيدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مِنْهُمْ حَمَّادُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى وَوَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى حَدِيثَ حُصَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مِثْلَ رِوَايَةِ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِي حَدِيثِ حُصَيْنٍ مَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّ هِلَالًا قَدْ أَدْرَكَ وَابِصَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْحَدِيثِ فِي هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ رَاشِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ أَصَحُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ حُصَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ أَصَحُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَهَذَا عِنْدِي أَصَحُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَمْرِو ابْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لِأَنَّهُ قَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَدِيثِ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ وَابِصَةَ.

ہلال بن یساف کہتے ہیں کہ زیاد بن ابی الجعد نے میرا ہاتھ پکڑا، ( ہم لوگ رقہ میں تھے ) پھر انہوں نے مجھے لے جا کر بنی اسد کے وابصہ بن معبد نامی ایک شیخ کے پاس کھڑا کیا اور کہا: مجھ سے اس شیخ نے بیان کیا اور شیخ ان کی بات سن رہے تھے کہ ایک شخص نے صف کے پیچھے تنہا نماز پڑھی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسے صلاۃ دہرانے کا حکم دیا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- وابصہ بن معبد رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں علی بن شیبان اور ابن عباس رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اہل علم میں سے کچھ لوگوں نے مکروہ سمجھا ہے کہ آدمی صف کے پیچھے تنہا نماز پڑھے اور کہا ہے کہ اگر اس نے صف کے پیچھے تنہا نماز پڑھی ہے تو وہ نماز دہرائے، یہی احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کہتے ہیں، ۴- اہل علم میں سے بعض لوگوں نے کہا ہے کہ اسے کافی ہو گا جب وہ صف کے پیچھے تنہا نماز پڑھے، سفیان ثوری، ابن مبارک اور شافعی کا بھی یہی قول ہے، ۵- اہل کوفہ میں سے کچھ لوگ وابصہ بن معبد کی حدیث کی طرف گئے ہیں، ان لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ جو صف کے پیچھے تنہا نماز پڑھے، وہ اسے دہرائے۔ انہیں میں سے حماد بن ابی سلیمان، ابن ابی لیلیٰ اور وکیع ہیں، ۶- مولف نے اس حدیث کے طرق کے ذکر کے بعد فرمایا کہ عمرو بن مرہ کی حدیث جسے انہوں نے بطریق «هلال بن يساف، عن عمرو بن راشد، عن وابصة» روایت کی ہے، زیادہ صحیح ہے، اور بعض نے کہا ہے کہ حصین کی حدیث جسے انہوں نے بطریق «هلال بن يساف، عن زياد بن أبي الجعد عن وابصة» روایت کی ہے زیادہ صحیح ہے۔ اور میرے نزدیک یہ عمرو بن مرہ کی حدیث سے زیادہ صحیح ہے، اس لیے کہ یہ ہلال بن یساف کے علاوہ طریق سے بھی زیاد بن ابی الجعد کے واسطے سے وابصہ سے مروی ہے۔

Wabisah bin Ma'bad narrated: A man prayed alone behind the row s the Prophet ordered him to repeat the Salat.

Ibn Abbas narrated: I prayed with the Prophet one night. I stood at his left, so Allah's Messenger took me by my head, from behind me, to put me on his right (side).

Samurah bin Jundub narrated: Allah's Messenger ordered us that when we were three, then one of us should stand forward.

Anas bin Malik narrated: My grandmother Mutalikah invited Allah's Messenger to a meal that she prepared. He ate from it, then said: 'Stand so tht we may lead you in prayer.' He said: I got a Hasir of our which had become dark because of prolonged use, so I washed it with water. Allah's Messenger stood on it, and the orphan and I aligned behind him and the only lady stood behind us. He (Allah's Messenger) led us in two Rak'ah of prayer and then left.

Abu Mas'ud narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: The one who recites most of the Book of Allah is to lead the people (in prayers). If they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable in the Sunnah among them. If they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest of them to emigrate. If they are equal in their emigration then the eldest among them. And a man is not to be led in prayer in the place of his authority, and his spot of esteem in his home is not to be sat on without his permission.

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Prophet said: When one of you leads the people in prayer then let him be brief, for indeed here are among them the young and the old, the weak and the ill. When one of you prays alone, then let him pray as he wishes.
