Abdul-Hamid bin Mahmud said: We prayed behind one of the Amirs, the people compelled us such that we prayed between two columns. When we had prayed, Anas bin Malik said: 'We would be prevented from this during the time of Allah's Messenger.'
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ هَانِئِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ الْمُرَادِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ مَحْمُودٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ أَمِيرٍ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ فَاضْطَرَّنَا النَّاسُ فَصَلَّيْنَا بَيْنَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا نَتَّقِي هَذَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ قُرَّةَ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أَنَسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ كَرِهَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ يُصَفَّ بَيْنَ السَّوَارِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أحمد، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وإسحاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَخَّصَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي ذَلِكَ.
عبدالحمید بن محمود کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم نے امراء میں سے ایک امیر کے پیچھے نماز پڑھی، لوگوں نے ہمیں دو ستونوں کے درمیان نماز پڑھنے پر مجبور کر دیا ۱؎ جب ہم نماز پڑھ چکے تو انس بن مالک رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: ہم لوگ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں اس سے بچتے تھے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- انس رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں قرۃ بن ایاس مزنی رضی الله عنہ سے بھی روایت ہے، ۳- علماء میں سے کچھ لوگوں نے ستونوں کے درمیان صف لگانے کو مکروہ جانا ہے۔ احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی یہی کہتے ہیں، اور علماء کچھ نے اس کی اجازت دی ہے ۲؎۔

Hilal bin Yasar said: Ziyad bin Abi Al-Ja'd took me by the hand while we were in Ar Raqqah, he made me stand before a Shaikh who was called Wabisah bin Ma'bad, from Bani Asad. Ziyad said: 'This Shaikh narrated to me that a prayed alone behind the row' - and the Shaikh was listening - 'so Allah's Messenger ordered him to repeat the Salat.'

Anas bin Malik narrated: My grandmother Mutalikah invited Allah's Messenger to a meal that she prepared. He ate from it, then said: 'Stand so tht we may lead you in prayer.' He said: I got a Hasir of our which had become dark because of prolonged use, so I washed it with water. Allah's Messenger stood on it, and the orphan and I aligned behind him and the only lady stood behind us. He (Allah's Messenger) led us in two Rak'ah of prayer and then left.

Abu Mas'ud narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: The one who recites most of the Book of Allah is to lead the people (in prayers). If they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable in the Sunnah among them. If they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest of them to emigrate. If they are equal in their emigration then the eldest among them. And a man is not to be led in prayer in the place of his authority, and his spot of esteem in his home is not to be sat on without his permission.
