Abu Al-Ahwas narrated from his father who said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I stayed with a man who did not entertain me nor behave hospitably with me. Then he came to stay with me, shall I reciprocate the same to him?' He (ﷺ said: 'No, entertain him. He said: 'He (ﷺ saw me wearing tattered clothes and said:'(Do you have any wealth?' I said: 'Allah has given me various kinds of wealth through camels and goats.' He said: 'Then let it be seen on you.'

حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏الرَّجُلُ أَمُرُّ بِهِ فَلَا يَقْرِينِي وَلَا يُضَيِّفُنِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَمُرُّ بِي أَفَأُجْزِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اقْرِهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَرَآَّنِي رَثَّ الثِّيَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ مَالٍ ؟ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ مِنْ كُلِّ الْمَالِ قَدْ أَعْطَانِيَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَلْيُرَ عَلَيْكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَجَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ اسْمُهُ عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْجُشَمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ:‏‏‏‏ اقْرِهِ:‏‏‏‏ أَضِفْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْقِرَى هُوَ الضِّيَافَةُ.

مالک بن نضلہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! ایک ایسا آدمی ہے جس کے پاس سے میں گزرتا ہوں تو میری ضیافت نہیں کرتا اور وہ بھی کبھی کبھی میرے پاس سے گزرتا ہے، کیا میں اس سے بدلہ لوں؟ ۱؎ آپ نے فرمایا: ”نہیں، ( بلکہ ) اس کی ضیافت کرو“، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میرے بدن پر پرانے کپڑے دیکھے تو پوچھا، تمہارے پاس مال و دولت ہے؟ میں نے کہا: اللہ نے مجھے ہر قسم کا مال اونٹ اور بکری عطاء کی ہے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”تمہارے اوپر اس مال کا اثر نظر آنا چاہیئے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- «اقْرِهِ» کا معنی ہے تم اس کی ضیافت کرو «قری» ضیافت کو کہتے ہیں، ۳- اس باب میں عائشہ، جابر اور ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۴- ابوالاحوص کا نام عوف بن مالک نضلہ جشمی ہے۔

Hudhaifah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: Do not let yourselves be 'yes-men', saying: 'If the people are good then we will be good, and if they are wrong then we will be wrong.'Rather, make up your own minds, if the people are good then you are good, and if they are evil, then do not behave unjustly.
