Bahz bin Hakim narrated from his father, from his grandfather who said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Who most deserves(my) reverence?' He said: 'Your mother.' He said: I said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Your mother.' He said: I said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Your mother.' He said: I said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Then your father, then the nearest relatives, then the nearest relatives.'
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَنْ أَبَرُّ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُمَّكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُمَّكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُمَّكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ أَبَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الْأَقْرَبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَالْأَقْرَبَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَبَهْزُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ هُوَ أَبْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنُ حَيْدَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ تَكَلَّمَ شُعْبَةُ فِي بَهْزِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى عَنْهُ مَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالثَّوْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْأَئِمَّةِ.
معاویہ بن حیدہ قشیری رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے عرض کیا اللہ کے رسول! میں کس کے ساتھ نیک سلوک اور صلہ رحمی کروں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اپنی ماں کے ساتھ“، میں نے عرض کیا: پھر کس کے ساتھ؟ فرمایا: ”اپنی ماں کے ساتھ“، میں نے عرض کیا: پھر کس کے ساتھ؟ فرمایا: ”اپنی ماں کے ساتھ“، میں نے عرض کیا: پھر کس کے ساتھ؟ فرمایا: ”پھر اپنے باپ کے ساتھ، پھر رشتہ داروں کے ساتھ پھر سب سے زیادہ قریبی رشتہ دار پھر اس کے بعد کا، درجہ بدرجہ“ ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن ہے، شعبہ نے بہز بن حکیم کے بارے میں کلام کیا ہے، محدثین کے نزدیک وہ ثقہ ہیں، ان سے معمر، ثوری، حماد بن سلمہ اور کئی ائمہ حدیث نے روایت کی ہے، ۲- اس باب میں ابوہریرہ، عبداللہ بن عمرو، عائشہ اور ابو الدرداء رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں۔

Ibn Mas'ud said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah! Which is the most virtuous of deeds?' He said: 'Salat during its appropriate time.' I said: 'Then what, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Being dutiful to one's parents.' I said: 'Then what, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Jihad in the cause of Allah.' Then the messenger of Allah was silent, and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.'

So Abu Ad-Darda said: I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: 'The father is the middle gate to Paradise. So if you wish, then neglect that door, or protect it.'

Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah narrated from his father who said: The messenger of Allah said: 'Shall I not tell you of the biggest of the major sins?' they said : 'Of course! O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'To join partners with Allah, and disobeying one's parents.' He said : He sat up, and he had been reclining. He said: 'And false testimony, or false speech.' And the Messenger of Allah would not stop saying it until we said (to ourselves): 'I wish that he would stop.'

He said: Yes. He verbally abuses the father of a man, who in turn, verbally abuses his father, and he (retaliates and) curses his mother , so he curses his mother.
