Translation

Ja'far bin Muhammad narrated that: His father said: The one who made the Lahd in the grave of the Messenger of Allah was Abu Talhah. And the one who placed the velvet cloth under him was Shuqran a freed slave of Messenger of Allah.

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ الطَّائِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الَّذِي أَلْحَدَ قَبْرَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالَّذِي أَلْقَى الْقَطِيفَةَ تَحْتَهُ شُقْرَانُ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . قَالَ جَعْفَرٌ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ شُقْرَانَ، يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا وَاللَّهِ طَرَحْتُ الْقَطِيفَةَ تَحْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ شُقْرَانَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ.

عثمان بن فرقد کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے جعفر بن محمد سے سنا وہ اپنے باپ سے روایت کر رہے تھے جس آدمی نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی قبر بغلی بنائی، وہ ابوطلحہ ہیں اور جس نے آپ کے نیچے چادر بچھائی وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے مولی ٰ شقران ہیں، جعفر کہتے ہیں: اور مجھے عبیداللہ بن ابی رافع نے خبر دی وہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے شقران کو کہتے سنا: اللہ کی قسم! میں نے قبر میں رسول اللہ کے نیچے چادر ۱؎ بچھائی تھی۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- شقران کی حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ۲- اس باب میں ابن عباس سے بھی روایت ہے۔

Ibn Abbas narrated: The Messenger of Allah passed by the graves of Al-Madinah, so he turned his face towards them and said: (As-Salamu alaikum ya ahlul-qubur! Yaghfirul-lahu lana wa lakun, antum salafuna wa nahnu bil-athar.) 'Peace be upon you O inhabitants of the grave! May Allah forgive us and you; you are our predecessors and we are to follow you.'
