Translation

Ali said: The Prophet of Allah [SAW] took hold of some silk in his right hand, and some gold in his left, then he said: 'These two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي الصَّعْبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ هَمْدَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ أَفْلَحُ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ابْنِ زُرَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا،‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَذَ حَرِيرًا فَجَعَلَهُ فِي يَمِينِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَخَذَ ذَهَبًا فَجَعَلَهُ فِي شِمَالِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ حَرَامٌ عَلَى ذُكُورِ أُمَّتِي . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ:‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثُ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ أَوْلَى بِالصَّوَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا قَوْلَهُ:‏‏‏‏ أَفْلَحَ فَإِنَّ أَبَا أَفْلَحَ أَشْبَهُ،‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ.

علی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ریشم لے کر اسے اپنے دائیں ہاتھ میں رکھا، اور سونا لے کر اسے اپنے بائیں ہاتھ میں رکھا، پھر فرمایا: ”یہ دونوں چیزیں میری امت کے مردوں پر حرام ہیں“۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن ( نسائی ) کہتے ہیں: ابن مبارک کی حدیث زیادہ قرین صواب ہے سوائے ان کے قول ”افلح“ کے، اس لیے کہ ”ابو افلح“ زیادہ صحیح ہے ۱؎۔

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Zurair Al-Ghafiqi said: I heard 'Ali say: 'The Messenger of Allah [SAW] took some gold in his right hand and some silk in his left hand and said: This is forbidden for the males of my Ummah.'

It was narrated that Abu Shaikh said: While we were with Mu'awiyah on one of his pilgrimages, he gathered together a group of the Companions of Muhammad [SAW] and said to them: 'Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade wearing gold unless it was broken (into smaller pieces)?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.'
