Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: One of the best kinds of kohl that you use is Ithmid (antimony); it brightens the vision and makes the hair (eye-lashes) grow.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْعَطَّارُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَكْحَالِكُمُ الْإِثْمِدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهُ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعَرَ . أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ لَيِّنُ الْحَدِيثِ.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب سے بہترین سرمہ اثمد ( ایک پتھر ) ہوتا ہے، وہ نظر تیز کرتا اور بال اگاتا ہے“۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن ( نسائی ) کہتے ہیں: عبداللہ بن عثمان بن خثیم لین الحدیث ہیں ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Simak said: I heard Jabir bin Samurah being asked about the gray hairs of the Prophet [SAW]. He said: 'If he put oil on his head they could not be seen, but if he did not put oil on his head, they could be seen.'

Abdullah bin Zaid narrated from his father that: Ibn 'Umar used to dye his garments with saffron. He was asked about that and he said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] used to dye his clothes (with it).
