Translation

It was narrated that Abu Bakr -the son of Abu Al-Jahm- said: I heard Fatimah bint Qais say: 'My husband sent word to me that I was divorced, so I put on my garments and went to the Prophet. He said: 'How many times did he divorce you?' I said: 'Three.' He said: 'You are not entitled to maintenance. Observe your 'Iddah in the house of your paternal cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind and you can take off your garments there. And when your 'Iddah is over let me know.' This is an abridgment.

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏تَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ زَوْجِي بِطَلَاقِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَشَدَدْتُ عَلَيَّ ثِيَابِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَمْ طَلَّقَكِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ ثَلَاثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَيْسَ لَكِ نَفَقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاعْتَدِّي فِي بَيْتِ ابْنِ عَمِّكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ ضَرِيرُ الْبَصَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏تُلْقِينَ ثِيَابَكِ عِنْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَآذِنِينِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مُخْتَصَرٌ.

فاطمہ بنت قیس رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میرے شوہر نے مجھے طلاق کہلا بھیجی تو میں اپنے کپڑے اپنے آپ پر لپیٹ کر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ( نفقہ و سکنی کا مطالبہ لے کر ) پہنچی۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”انہوں نے تمہیں کتنی طلاقیں دی ہیں؟“ میں نے کہا: تین، آپ نے فرمایا: ”پھر تو تمہیں نفقہ نہیں ملے گا تم اپنی عدت کے دن اپنے چچا کے بیٹے ابن ام مکتوم کے گھر میں پورے کرو کیونکہ وہ نابینا ہیں، تم ان کے پاس رہ کر بھی اپنے کپڑے اتار سکتی ہو پھر جب تمہاری عدت کے دن پورے ہو جائیں تو مجھے خبر دو“، یہ حدیث طویل ہے، یہاں مختصر بیان ہوئی ہے۔

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: A man came to him and said: 'I have made my wife forbidden to myself.' He said: 'You are lying, she is not forbidden to you.' Then he recited this Verse: 'O Prophet! Why do you forbid (for yourself) that which Allah has allowed to you.' (And he said): 'You have to offer the severest form of expiation: Freeing a slave.'

Ubaid bin 'Umair narrated from 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet: The Prophet used to stay with Zainab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her house. Hafsah and I agreed that if the Prophet came to either of us, she would say: 'I detect the smell of Maghafir (a nasty-smelling gum) on you; have you eaten Maghafir?' He came to one of them and she said that to him. He said: 'No, rather I drank honey at the house of Zainab bint Jahsh, but I will never do it again.' Then the following was revealed: 'O Prophet! Why do you forbid (for yourself) that which Allah has allowed to you.' 'If you two turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you).' addressing 'Aishah and Hafsah; 'And (remember) when the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives.' refers to him saying: No, rather I drank honey.

Ka'b bin Malik narrated the Hadith about when he stayed behind, and did not join the Messenger of Allah on the expedition to Tabuk. He told the story, and said: The envoy of the Messenger of Allah came to me and said: 'The Messenger of Allah commands you to stay away from your wife.' I said: 'Shall I divorce her or what?' He said: 'No, just keep away from her and do not approach her.' I said to my wife: 'Go to your family and stay with them until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, decides concerning this matter.'

Abdur-Rahman bin 'Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik narrated that his father said: I heard my father Ka'b bin Malik -who was one of the three whose repentance was accepted- say: 'The Messenger of Allah sent word to me and to my two companions saying: The Messenger of Allah commands you to keep away from your wives. I said to his envoy: Shall I divorce my wife, or what should I do? He said: No, just keep away from her, and do not approach her. I said to my wife: Go to your family and stay with them. So she went to them.'
