Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: A previously married woman should not be married until her consent has been sought, and a virgin should not be married until her permission has been sought. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is her permission? He said: If she remains silent.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تُنْكَحُ الْأَيِّمُ حَتَّى تُسْتَأْمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تُنْكَحُ الْبِكْرُ حَتَّى تُسْتَأْذَنَ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ إِذْنُهَا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْ تَسْكُتَ .
ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کا بیان ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”بیوہ کی شادی نہ کی جائے جب تک کہ اس سے مشورہ نہ لے لیا جائے اور کنواری لڑکی کی شادی نہ کی جائے جب تک کہ اس کی اجازت نہ لے لی جائے“، لوگوں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! اس کی اجازت کیسے جانی جائے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اس کا خاموش رہنا“ ( ہی اس کی اجازت ہے ) ۔

It was narrated from 'Aishah: A girl came to her and said: 'My father married me to his brother's son so that he might raise his own status thereby, and I was unwilling.' She said: 'Sit here until the Prophet comes.' Then the Messenger of Allah came, and I told him (what she had said). He sent word to her father, calling him, and he left the matter up to her. She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I accept what my father did, but I wanted to know whether women have any say in the matter.'
