Translation

It was narrated from 'Aishah: A girl came to her and said: 'My father married me to his brother's son so that he might raise his own status thereby, and I was unwilling.' She said: 'Sit here until the Prophet comes.' Then the Messenger of Allah came, and I told him (what she had said). He sent word to her father, calling him, and he left the matter up to her. She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I accept what my father did, but I wanted to know whether women have any say in the matter.'

أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ غُرَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ فَتَاةً دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ أَبِي زَوَّجَنِي ابْنَ أَخِيهِ لِيَرْفَعَ بِي خَسِيسَتَهُ وَأَنَا كَارِهَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ اجْلِسِي حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أَبِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَعَاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَعَلَ الْأَمْرَ إِلَيْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ أَجَزْتُ مَا صَنَعَ أَبِي وَلَكِنْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَعْلَمَ أَلِلنِّسَاءِ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ ؟ .

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ ایک نوجوان لڑکی ان کے پاس آئی، اور اس نے کہا: میرے باپ نے میری شادی اپنے بھتیجے سے اس کی خست اور کمینگی پر پردہ ڈالنے کے لیے کر دی ہے، حالانکہ میں اس شادی سے خوش نہیں ہوں، انہوں نے اس سے کہا: بیٹھ جاؤ، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو آ لینے دو ( پھر اپنا قضیہ آپ کے سامنے پیش کرو ) ، چنانچہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب تشریف لے آئے تو اس نے آپ کو اپنے معاملے سے آگاہ کیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے باپ کو بلا بھیجا ( اور جب وہ آ گیا ) تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فیصلہ اس ( لڑکی ) کے اختیار میں دے دیا اس ( لڑکی ) نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! میرے والد نے جو کچھ کر دیا ہے، میں نے اسے قبول کر لیا ( ان کے کئے ہوئے نکاح کو رد نہیں کرتی ) لیکن میں نے ( اس معاملہ کو آپ کے سامنے پیش کر کے ) یہ جاننا چاہا ہے کہ کیا عورتوں کو بھی کچھ حق و اختیار حاصل ہے ( سو میں نے جان لیا ) ۔

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'An orphan girl should be consulted with regard to marriage, and if she remains silent, that is her permission. If she refuses then she is not to be forced.'
