Translation

It was narrated that Shaqiq said: I was siting with 'Abdullah and Abu Musa, and Abu Musa said: 'Have you not heard what 'Ammar said to 'Umar: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me on an errand and I became Junub, and I could not find water, so I rolled in the earth then I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and told him about.' He said: 'It would have been sufficient for you to do this,' and he struck the earth with his hands, then wiped his hands, then knocked them together to remove the dust, then he wiped his right hand with his left and his left hand with his right, palm to palm, and wiped his face.' Then 'Abdullah said: Did you not see that 'Umar was not convinced by what 'Ammar said?

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ أَوْ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ عَمَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لِعُمَرَ ؟ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَأَجْنَبْتُ فَلَمْ أَجِدِ الْمَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَمَرَّغْتُ بِالصَّعِيدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ أَنْ تَقُولَ هَكَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَضَرَبَ بِيَدَيْهِ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ ضَرْبَةً فَمَسَحَ كَفَّيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ نَفَضَهُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِشِمَالِهِ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ وَبِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ عَلَى كَفَّيْهِ وَوَجْهِهِ . فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ أَوَ لَمْ تَرَ عُمَرَ لَمْ يَقْنَعْ بِقَوْلِ عَمَّارٍ ؟.

ابووائل شقیق بن سلمہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں عبداللہ بن مسعود اور ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہم کے ساتھ بیٹھا ہوا تھا، تو ابوموسیٰ نے کہا: ۱؎ آپ نے عمار رضی اللہ عنہ کی بات جو انہوں نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہی نہیں سنی کہ مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کسی ضرورت سے بھیجا، تو میں جنبی ہو گیا، اور مجھے پانی نہیں ملا، تو میں نے مٹی میں لوٹ پوٹ لیا، پھر میں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا، تو آپ سے اس کا ذکر کیا، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تمہارے لیے بس اس طرح کر لینا ہی کافی تھا ، اور آپ نے اپنا دونوں ہاتھ زمین پر ایک بار مارا، اور اپنی دونوں ہتھیلیوں کا مسح کیا، پھر انہیں جھاڑا، پھر آپ نے اپنی بائیں ( ہتھیلی ) سے اپنی داہنی ( ہتھیلی ) پر اور داہنی ہتھیلی سے اپنی بائیں ( ہتھیلی ) پر مارا، اور اپنی دونوں ہتھیلیوں اور اپنے چہرے کا مسح کیا، عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: کیا آپ نے دیکھا نہیں کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ عمار رضی اللہ عنہ کی بات سے مطمئن نہیں ہوئے؟۔

It was narrated that Abu Raja' said: I heard 'Imran bin Husain (say) that the Prophet (ﷺ) saw a man who was by himself and did not pray with the people. He said: 'O So and so, what kept you from praying with the people?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have become Junub and there is no water.' He said: 'You should use earth for that will suffice you.'

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Clean earth is the Wudu' of the Muslim, even if he does not find water for ten years.'

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent Usaid bin Hudair and some other people to look for a necklace that 'Aishah had left behind in a place where she had stopped (while traveling). The time for prayer came and they did not have Wudu', and they could not find any water, so they prayed without Wudu'. They mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed the verse of Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said: 'May Allah reward you with good, for by Allah, nothing ever happened to you that you dislike, but Allah makes it good for you and the Muslims.'

It was narrated from Tariq that a man became Junub and did not pray, then he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and mentioned that to him. He said: You did the right thing. Another man became Junub and performed Tayammum and prayed, and he came to him and he said something similar to what he had told the other man - meaning, you did the right thing.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you perform Wudu' from the well into which the bodies of dogs, menstrual rags and garbage are thrown?' He said: 'Water is pure and it is not made impure by anything.'
