Narrated 'Aishah: It was narrated from 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet, that the Messenger of Allah came to her when Allah commanded him to give his wives the choice. 'Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah started with me and said: 'I am going to tell you something, but you do not have to rush until you consult your parents.' She said: He knew that my parents would not tell me to leave him. Then the Messenger of Allah said: 'O Prophet! Say to your wives: If you desire the life of this world, and its glitter, then come! I will make a provision for you and set you free in a handsome manner.' I said: 'Do I need to consult my parents about this? I choose Allah and His Messenger, and the abode of the Hereafter.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ أَعْيَنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَهَا حِينَ أَمَرَهُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُخَيِّرَ أَزْوَاجَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ:‏‏‏‏ فَبَدَأَ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي ذَاكِرٌ لَكِ أَمْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا عَلَيْكِ أَنْ لَا تُعَجِّلِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرِي أَبَوَيْكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ وَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ أَبَوَيَّ لَا يَأْمُرَانِي بِفِرَاقِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ يَأَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا فَتَعَالَيْنَ أُمَتِّعْكُنَّ سورة الأحزاب آية 28،‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فِي هَذَا أَسْتَأْمِرُ أَبَوَيَّ فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ .

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہمارے پاس اس وقت تشریف لائے جب اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں حکم دیا کہ آپ اپنی ازواج کو ( دو بات میں سے ایک کو اپنا لینے کا ) اختیار دیں۔ اس کی ابتداء رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ( سب سے پہلے ) میرے پاس آ کر کی۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ”میں تم سے ایک بات کا ذکر کرتا ہوں لیکن جب تک تم اپنے والدین سے مشورہ نہ کر لو جواب دینے میں جلدی نہ کرنا“۔ ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں: حالانکہ آپ کو معلوم تھا کہ میرے والدین آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے علیحدگی اختیار کر لینے کا مشورہ اور حکم ( کبھی بھی ) نہ دیں گے۔ پھر آپ نے فرمایا: ( یعنی یہ آیت پڑھی ) «يا أيها النبي قل لأزواجك إن كنتن تردن الحياة الدنيا وزينتها فتعالين أمتعكن» ”اے نبی! اپنی بیویوں سے کہہ دو کہ اگر تم دنیاوی زندگی، دنیاوی زیب و زینت چاہتی ہو تو آؤ میں تمہیں کچھ دے دلا دوں، اور تمہیں اچھائی کے ساتھ رخصت کر دوں“ ( الاحزاب: ۲۸ ) میں نے کہا: اس سلسلہ میں اپنے والدین سے مشورہ کروں؟ ( مجھے کسی مشورہ کی ضرورت نہیں ) کیونکہ میں اللہ کو، اس کے رسول کو اور آخرت کے گھر ( جنت ) کو چاہتی ہوں ( یہی میرا فیصلہ ہے ) ۱؎۔

Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated that 'Alqamah said: I was with Ibn Mas'ud while he was with 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, and 'Uthman said: 'The Messenger of Allah came out to some fityah (young men)--Abu 'AbdurRahman said, 'I did not understand (the word) fityah as I would want'-- and said: 'Whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity, and whoever cannot, then fasting will be a restraint (wija') for him.'

Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated from 'Alqamah, that 'Uthman said to Ibn Mas'ud: Shall I arrange for you to marry a young girl? 'Abdullah called 'Alqamah and he told the people that the Prophet said: Whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity. And whoever cannot afford it, then let him fast, for it will be a restraint for him.
