Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated from 'Alqamah, that 'Uthman said to Ibn Mas'ud: Shall I arrange for you to marry a young girl? 'Abdullah called 'Alqamah and he told the people that the Prophet said: Whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity. And whoever cannot afford it, then let him fast, for it will be a restraint for him.

أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ لَكَ فِي فَتَاةٍ أُزَوِّجُكَهَا ؟ فَدَعَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَلْقَمَةَ فَحَدَّثَ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَصُمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ .

علقمہ سے روایت ہے کہ عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا: اگر تمہیں کسی نوجوان عورت سے شادی کی خواہش ہو تو میں تمہاری اس سے شادی کرا دوں؟ تو عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے علقمہ کو بلایا ( اور ان کی موجودگی میں ) حدیث بیان کی کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جو شخص بیوی کو نان و نفقہ دے سکتا ہو اسے شادی کر لینی چاہیئے۔ کیونکہ نکاح نگاہ کو نیچی رکھنے اور شرمگاہ کو محفوظ کرنے کا ذریعہ ہے اور جو شخص نان و نفقہ دینے کی طاقت نہ رکھتا ہو تو اسے روزے رکھنا چاہیئے کیونکہ وہ اس کا توڑ ہے“ ( اس سے نفس کمزور ہوتا ہے ) ۱؎۔

Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated from 'Alqamah and Al-Aswad that 'Abdullah said: The Messenger of Allah said to us: 'Whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, and whoever cannot then he should fast, for it will be a restraint (wija') for him.' Abu Abdur-Rahman said: (The mention of) Al-Aswad in this hadith is not preserved.

Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated that 'Alqamah said: I was walking with 'Abdullah in Mina and he was met by 'Uthman who stood with him and spoke with him. He said: 'O Abu Abdur-Rahman! Shall I not marry you to a young girl? Perhaps she will remind you of when you were younger?' 'Abdullah said: 'As you say that (it reminds me that) the Messenger of Allah said to us: O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married.'

Narrated Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas: It was narrated that Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas said: The Messenger of Allah forbade 'Uthman to be celibate. If he had given him permission we would have castrated ourselves.
