Abu Rabiah binAl-Harith said to 'Abdul-Muttalib bin Rabi'ah bin Al-Harith and Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib: Go to the Messenger of Allah and say to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, appoint us to collect the Sadaqat!' 'Ali bin Abi Talib came along when we were like that, and he said to them: The Messenger of Allah will not appoint any of you to collect the Sadaqah. ' 'Abdul-Muttalib said: So I went with Al-Fadl until we came to the Messenger of Allah and he said to us: This Zakah is the dirt of the people, and it is not permissible for Muhammad or for the family of Muhammad. '

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ سَوَّادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ الْهَاشِمِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَخْبَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ أَبَاهُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لِعَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْفَضْلِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ:‏‏‏‏ ائْتِيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُولَا لَهُ اسْتَعْمِلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الصَّدَقَاتِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَى عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَنَحْنُ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُمَا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَسْتَعْمِلُ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدًا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ:‏‏‏‏ فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَالْفَضْلُ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَنَا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَةَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَوْسَاخُ النَّاسِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِمُحَمَّدٍ وَلَا لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

عبدالمطلب بن ربیعہ رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ان کے والد ربیعہ بن حارث نے عبدالمطلب بن ربیعہ اور فضل بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہم سے کہا کہ تم دونوں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس جاؤ، اور آپ سے کہو کہ اللہ کے رسول! آپ ہمیں صدقہ پر عامل بنا دیں، ہم اسی حال میں تھے کہ علی رضی اللہ عنہ آ گئے تو انہوں نے ان دونوں سے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تم دونوں میں سے کسی کو بھی صدقہ پر عامل مقرر نہیں فرمائیں گے۔ عبدالمطلب کہتے ہیں: ( ان کے ایسا کہنے کے باوجود بھی ) میں اور فضل دونوں چلے یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس پہنچے، تو آپ نے ہم سے فرمایا: ”یہ صدقہ جو ہے یہ لوگوں کا میل ہے، یہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے لیے اور محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے آل کے لیے جائز نہیں“۔

It was narrated from Ihn Abi Rafi, from his father, that: the Messenger of Allah appointed a man from Banu Makhzum to collect Sadaqah. Abu Rafi wanted to go with him, but the Messenger of Allah said: The Sadaqah is not permissible for us, and the freed slave of a people is one of them.

Bahz bin Hakim narrated from his father that his grandfather said: If something was brought to him, the prophet would ask whether it was a gift or charity. If it was said that if was charity, he would not eat, and if it was said that it was a gift, he would stretch forth his hand.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that: she wanted to buy Barirah and set her free, but they stipulated that her loyally as a freed slave (wala') should be to them. She mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: Buy her and set her fee, and loyally is due to the one who frees the slave. She was given the choice when she was freed. Some meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah and it was said: This is something that is given in charity to Barirah. He said: It is charity for her and gift for us. And her husband was a free man.

It was narrated from Zaid bin Aslam that his father said: I heard 'Umar say: 'I gave a horse to someone to ride in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and the one who kept it neglected it. I wanted to buy it back from him, and I thought that he would sell it at a cheap price. I asked the Messenger for Allah about that and he said: Do not buy it, even if he gives it to you for a Dirham. The one who takes back his charity is like the dog that goes back to its own vomit. '
