Translation

It was narrated from 'Aishah that: she wanted to buy Barirah and set her free, but they stipulated that her loyally as a freed slave (wala') should be to them. She mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: Buy her and set her fee, and loyally is due to the one who frees the slave. She was given the choice when she was freed. Some meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah and it was said: This is something that is given in charity to Barirah. He said: It is charity for her and gift for us. And her husband was a free man.

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بَرِيرَةَ فَتُعْتِقَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّهُمُ اشْتَرَطُوا وَلَاءَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْتَرِيهَا وَأَعْتِقِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ وَخُيِّرَتْ حِينَ أُعْتِقَتْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِلَحْمٍ فَقِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا مِمَّا تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هُوَ لَهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ ،‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا حُرًّا.

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے بریرہ رضی اللہ عنہا کو خرید کر آزاد کر دینا چاہا، لیکن ان کے مالکان نے ولاء ( ترکہ ) خود لینے کی شرط لگائی۔ تو انہوں نے اس کا تذکرہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کیا، تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اسے خرید لو، اور آزاد کر دو، ولاء ( ترکہ ) اسی کا ہے جو آزاد کرے“، اور جس وقت وہ آزاد کر دی گئیں تو انہیں اختیار دیا گیا کہ وہ اپنے شوہر کی زوجیت میں رہیں یا نہ رہیں۔ ( اسی درمیان ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس گوشت لایا گیا، کہا گیا کہ یہ ان چیزوں میں سے ہے جو بریرہ رضی اللہ عنہا پر صدقہ کیا جاتا ہے، تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”یہ اس کے لیے صدقہ ہے، اور ہمارے لیے ہدیہ ہے“، ان کے شوہر آزاد تھے۔

It was narrated from Zaid bin Aslam that his father said: I heard 'Umar say: 'I gave a horse to someone to ride in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and the one who kept it neglected it. I wanted to buy it back from him, and I thought that he would sell it at a cheap price. I asked the Messenger for Allah about that and he said: Do not buy it, even if he gives it to you for a Dirham. The one who takes back his charity is like the dog that goes back to its own vomit. '

It was narrated from 'Umar that: he gave someone a horse to ride in the cause of Allah, then he saw it offered for sale and wanted to buy it. The Prophet said to him: Do not think of buying back what you have given in charity.

It was narrated from Salim bin 'Abdullah that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar used to narrate that: 'Umar give a house in charity for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and he found it being offered for sale after that. He wanted to buy it, then he went to the Messenger of Allah and asked him about that. The Messenger of Allah said: Do not take back what you have given in charity.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah addressed the people and said: 'Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined upon you Hajj.' A man said: 'Every year?' He remained silent until he had repeated it three times. Then he said: 'If I said yes, it would be obligatory, and if it were obligatory you would not be able to do it. Leave me alone so long as I have left you alone. Those who came before you were destroyed because they asked too many questions and differed with their prophets. If I command you to do something then follow it as much as you can, and if I forbid you to do something then avoid it. '

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah stood up and said: Allah, Most High, has decreed Hajj for you. Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamimi said: Every year, O Messenger of Allah? But he remained silent, then he said: If I said yes, it would become obligatory, then you would not hear and obey. Rather it is just one Hajj.
