Hunaidah Al-Khuza'i said: I entered upon the Mother of the Believers and heard her say: 'The Messenger of Allah used to fast three days of each month: The first Monday of the month, then Thursday, then the following Thursday.

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زُهَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْحُرِّ بْنِ الصَّيَّاحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ هُنَيْدَةَ الْخُزَاعِيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَمِعْتُهَا،‏‏‏‏ تَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوَّلَ اثْنَيْنِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الْخَمِيسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الْخَمِيسَ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ .

ہنیدہ خزاعی کہتے ہیں کہ میں ام المؤمنین کے پاس آیا، اور میں نے انہیں کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہر مہینے تین دن روزہ رکھتے تھے۔ مہینے کے پہلے کہ دوشنبہ ( پیر ) کو، پھر جمعرات کو، پھر اس کے بعد کے آنے والے جمعرات کو۔

It was narrated that Hafsah said: There are four things which the Prophet never gave up: Fasting 'Ashura', (fasting during) the ten days, (fasting) three days of each month, and praying two Rak'ahs before Al-Ghadah (Fajr).
