It was narrated that Umm Salamah said: The Messenger of Allah used to fast three days of every month: the Monday and Thursday of the first week and the Monday of the following week.

أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَصْرٍ التَّمَّارُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَوَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالِاثْنَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُقْبِلَةِ .

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہر مہینے تین دن روزہ رکھتے تھے: پہلے ہفتہ کے دوشنبہ ( پیر ) اور جمعرات کو، اور دوسرے ہفتہ کے دوشنبہ ( پیر ) کو۔

It was narrated that Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf said: I heard Mu'awiyah say on the day of 'Ashura when he was on the Mindar: O people of Al-Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah say on this day: I am fasting, so whoever wants to fast let him do so.
