It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Masud said: The Messenger of Allah used to fast three days in the middle of every month, and he rarely did not fast on Friday.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبِي،‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زِرٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ غُرَّةِ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَلَّمَا يُفْطِرُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ .

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہر مہینے کے ابتدائی تین دنوں میں روزہ رکھتے تھے اور کم ہی ایسا ہوتا کہ آپ جمعہ کے دن روزہ سے نہ رہے ہوں ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah commanded me to pray two Rakahs of Duha, and not to sleep until I had prayed witr, and to fast three days each month.
