It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah would fast until we said he would not break his fast, and he would not fast until we said he does not want to fast. And he never fasted any month in full apart from Ramadan, from the time he came to Al-Madinah.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يُفْطِرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا صَامَ شَهْرًا مُتَتَابِعًا غَيْرَ رَمَضَانَ مُنْذُ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم روزے رکھتے تھے یہاں تک کہ ہم کہتے: آپ روزے رکھنا بند نہیں کریں گے، اور آپ بغیر روزے کے رہتے تھے یہاں تک کہ ہم کہتے کہ آپ روزے رکھنے کا ارادہ نہیں رکھتے۔ اور آپ جب سے مدینہ آئے رمضان کے علاوہ آپ نے کسی بھی مہینہ کے مسلسل روزے نہیں رکھے۔

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I asked 'Aishah about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah. She said: The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said: He is going to (continue to) fast, and he used not to fast until we said: He is not going to, and he did not fast for a whole month from the time he came to Al-Madinah, apart from Ramadan. '

Aishah said: The month which the Messenger of Allah most liked to fast was Shaban; indeed he used to join it to Ramadan.
