It was narrated that 'Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah came to us one day and we said: 'We have been given some Hais and we set aside some for you.' He said: 'I am fasting, but he broke his fast.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا قَاسِمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حَيْسٌ قَدْ جَعَلْنَا لَكَ مِنْهُ نَصِيبًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَأَفْطَرَ .

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ ایک دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم میرے پاس تشریف لائے، ہم نے عرض کیا: ہمارے پاس حیس کا تحفہ بھیجا گیا، ہم نے اس میں آپ کا ( بھی ) حصہ لگایا ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”میں روزہ سے ہوں“، پھر آپ نے روزہ توڑ دیا۔

It was narrated from 'Aishah, the mother of the Believers, that the Prophet used to come to her when he was fasting and say: Do you have anything this morning that you can give me to eat? we would say no, and he would say: I am fasting. Then after that he came and she said: I have been given a gift. He said: What is it? she said: Hais. He said: I started the day fasting, but then he ate.
