It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I asked 'Aishah about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah. She said: 'The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said that he is going to fast (continually), and he used not to fast until we said: he is not going to fast. And he did not fast for a whole month from the time he came to Al-Madinah, apart from Ramadan. ' '
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي يُوسُفَ الصَّيْدَلَانِيُّ حَرَّانِيٌّ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِشَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ صَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ قَدْ أَفْطَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَصُمْ شَهْرًا تَامًّا مُنْذُ أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ رَمَضَانُ .
عبداللہ بن شقیق کہتے ہیں   میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے روزوں کے متعلق پوچھا: ( تو ) انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ( اس تسلسل سے ) روزے رکھتے کہ ہم سمجھتے ( اب ) آپ روزے ( ہی ) رکھتے رہیں گے، اور ( کبھی آپ اس تسلسل سے ) بغیر روزے کے رہتے کہ ہم سمجھتے ( اب ) آپ بغیر روزے کے رہیں گے، اور آپ جب سے مدینہ آئے کبھی آپ نے پورے مہینے روزے نہیں رکھے سوائے اس کے کہ وہ رمضان ہو۔

She said: No, unless he was returning from a journey, I Did the Messenger of Allah fast an entire month?' She said: 'No, I do not remember him fasting any month in full apart from Ramadan, and he did not break his fast for a whole month, rather he would fast some of (each month) until he passed away. ' '

He said: 'Come and eat.' I said: 'I am fasting.' He adjured me by Allah to break my fast. I said Subhan-Allah twice. When I saw that he was insisting, I went forward and said: 'Give me what you have.' He said: 'I heard Ibn 'Abbas say: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fast when you see it (the crescent) and stop fasting when you see it, and if clouds or darkness prevent you from seeing it, then complete the number of days of Shaban, and do not fast ahead of the month, and do not join Ramadan to a day of Shaban. '
