It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I said to Aishah: 'Did the Messenger of Allah offer Duha prayer? She said: No, unless he was returning from a journey, I Did the Messenger of Allah fast an entire month?' She said: 'No, I do not remember him fasting any month in full apart from Ramadan, and he did not break his fast for a whole month, rather he would fast some of (each month) until he passed away. ' '

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا خَالِدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ كَهْمَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الضُّحَى ؟ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنْ يَجِيءَ مِنْ مَغِيبِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ شَهْرًا كُلَّهُ ؟ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا عَلِمْتُ صَامَ شَهْرًا كُلَّهُ إِلَّا رَمَضَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا أَفْطَرَ حَتَّى يَصُومَ مِنْهُ حَتَّى مَضَى لِسَبِيلِهِ .

عبداللہ بن شقیق کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے سوال کیا: کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم صلاۃ الضحیٰ ( چاشت کی نماز ) پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا: نہیں، الا یہ کہ سفر سے ( لوٹ کر ) آتے، ( پھر ) میں نے سوال کیا: کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کبھی پورے ماہ روزے رکھتے تھے؟ تو انہوں نے کہا: نہیں، میں نہیں جانتی کہ آپ نے رمضان کے علاوہ کبھی پورے ماہ کے روزے رکھے ہوں، اور اور نہ ایسا ہی ہوتا کہ آپ پورے ماہ بغیر روزے کے رہے ہوں، کچھ نہ کچھ روزے ضرور رکھتے یہاں تک کہ آپ وفات پا گئے۔

It was narrated that Simak said: I entered upon 'Ikrimah on the day concerning which there was doubt as to whether it was Ramadan or Shaban, and he was eating bread, vegetables and milk. He said: 'Come and eat.' I said: 'I am fasting.' He adjured me by Allah to break my fast. I said Subhan-Allah twice. When I saw that he was insisting, I went forward and said: 'Give me what you have.' He said: 'I heard Ibn 'Abbas say: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fast when you see it (the crescent) and stop fasting when you see it, and if clouds or darkness prevent you from seeing it, then complete the number of days of Shaban, and do not fast ahead of the month, and do not join Ramadan to a day of Shaban. '

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah used to say: Do not fast one or two days ahead of the month, unless the one who used to observe a regular fast. In that case let him fast. '
