It was narrated that Anas said: The Messenger of Allah said, at the time of Sahur. 'O Anas, I want to fast, so give me something to eat.' So I brought him some dates and a vessel of water. That was after the Adhan of Bilal. He said: 'O Anas, find a man to come and eat with me.' So I called Zaid bin Thabit, who came and said: I drank some Sawiq and I want to fast.' The Messenger of Allah said: I also want to fast.' So he ate Sahr with him, then he got up and prayed two Rak'ahs, then he went out to the prayer.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَلِكَ عِنْدَ السُّحُورِ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَنَسُ ! إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ أَطْعِمْنِي شَيْئًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَ مَا أَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَنَسُ ! انْظُرْ رَجُلًا يَأْكُلْ مَعِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَعَوْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي قَدْ شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةَ سَوِيقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ .

انس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سحری کے وقت فرمایا: ”اے انس! میں روزہ رکھنا چاہتا ہوں، مجھے کچھ کھلاؤ“، تو میں کچھ کھجور اور ایک برتن میں پانی لے کر آپ کے پاس آیا، اور یہ بلال رضی اللہ عنہ کی اذان دینے کے بعد کا وقت تھا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اے انس! کسی اور شخص کو تلاش کرو جو میرے ساتھ ( سحری ) کھائے“، تو میں نے زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلایا، چنانچہ وہ آئے ( اور ) کہنے لگے: میں نے ستو کا ایک گھونٹ پی لیا ہے، اور میں روزہ رکھنا چاہتا ہوں، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”میں ( بھی ) روزہ رکھنا چاہتا ہوں“، ( پھر ) زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ نے آپ کے ساتھ سحری کھائی، پھر آپ اٹھے، اور ( فجر کی ) دو رکعت ( سنت ) پڑھی، پھر آپ فرض نماز کے لیے نکل گئے۔

It was narrated from Al-Bara bin Azib that: if one of them went to sleep before eating supper, it was not permissible for him to eat or drink anything that night or the following day, until the sun had set. (That continued) until this Verse was revealed: And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night). He said: This was revealed concerning Abu Qais bin 'Amr who came to his family after Maghrib when he was fasting, and said: 'Is there anything to eat? His wife said: 'No , but I will go out, and he lay down and slept. She came back and found him sleeping, so she woke him up, but he did not eat anything. He spent the night fasting and woke up the next day fasting, until he passed out at midday. That was before this Verse was revealed, and Allah revealed it concerning him. '

It was narrated from 'Adiyy bin Hatim that: he asked the Messenger of Allah about the verse Until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night). He said: It is the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the day. '

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet said: Bilal calls the Adhan at night to awaken those of you who are asleep, and so that those who are praying Qiyam cam return. Dawn is not when the light appears like this - and he gestured with his hand - rather dawn is when it appears like this: - and he gestured with his two forefingers. '
