It was narrated from Hudhaifah that: He prayed with the Messenger of Allah during Ramadan. He bowed and said: Subhana Rabbiyal-Azim while bowing, for as long as he had stood. Then he sat down and said: Rabbighfirli, Rabbighfirli (Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me), for as long as he had stood. Then he prostrated and said: Subhana Rabbiyal-'Ala for as long as he had stood And he prayed no more than four rak'ahs when Bilal came for Al-Ghadah.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَرَكَعَ فَقَالَ فِي رُكُوعِهِ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ جَلَسَ،‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ سَجَدَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا صَلَّى إِلَّا أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ حَتَّى جَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى الْغَدَاةِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عِنْدِي مُرْسَلٌ وَطَلْحَةُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ لَا أَعْلَمُهُ سَمِعَ مِنْ حُذَيْفَةَ شَيْئًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَيْرُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ رَجُلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ.

حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ رمضان میں نماز پڑھی، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رکوع کیا، اور یہ اتنا ہی لمبا تھا جتنا آپ کا قیام تھا، آپ نے اپنے رکوع میں «سبحان ربي العظيم‏» کہا، پھر آپ اتنی ہی دیر بیٹھے جتنی دیر کھڑے تھے، اور «رب اغفر لي رب اغفر لي» کہتے رہے، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اتنی دیر تک سجدہ کیا جتنی دیر تک آپ کھڑے تھے، اور «سبحان ربي الأعلى» کہتے رہے تو آپ نے صرف چار رکعتیں پڑھیں یہاں تک کہ بلال رضی اللہ عنہ صبح کی نماز کے لیے بلانے آ گئے۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن نسائی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث میرے نزدیک مرسل ( منقطع ) ہے، میں نہیں جانتا کہ طلحہ بن یزید نے حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے کچھ سنا ہے، علاء بن مسیب کے علاوہ دوسرے لوگوں نے اس حدیث میں یوں کہا: «عن طلحۃ، عن رجل، عن حذیفۃ»۔

It was narrated from Ya'la bin Ata that he heard Ali Al-Azdi (say) that he heard Ibn Umar narrate that: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The prayers of the night and day are two by two.

It was narrated that Tawus said: Ibn Umar said: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about prayer at night. He said: Two by two, and if you fear that dawn will come, then one.'

It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that : The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Prayers at night are two by two, then if you fear that dawn will come, pray witr with one rak'ah.

It was narrated that Ibn Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the minbar, when he was asked about prayers at night, say: Two by two, then if you fear that dawn will come, pray witr with one rak'ah.'
