Narrated Imran ibn Husayn: A man came to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and said: Peace be upon you! He responded to his salutation. He then sat down. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Ten. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy be upon you! He responded to his salutation when he sat down. He said: Twenty. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: Thirty.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَوْفٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ،‏‏‏‏ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ عَشْرٌ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَجَلَسَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عِشْرُونَ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ،‏‏‏‏ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَجَلَسَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثَلَاثُونَ .

عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ ایک شخص نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور اس نے السلام علیکم کہا، آپ نے اسے سلام کا جواب دیا، پھر وہ بیٹھ گیا، تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اس کو دس نیکیاں ملیں پھر ایک اور شخص آیا، اس نے السلام علیکم ورحمتہ اﷲ کہا، آپ نے اسے جواب دیا، پھر وہ شخص بھی بیٹھ گیا، آپ نے فرمایا: اس کو بیس نیکیاں ملیں پھر ایک اور شخص آیا اس نے السلام علیکم ورحمتہ اﷲ وبرکاتہ کہا، آپ نے اسے بھی جواب دیا، پھر وہ بھی بیٹھ گیا، آپ نے فرمایا: اسے تیس نیکیاں ملیں ۔

Narrated Muadh ibn Anas: (This version is same as previous No 5176 from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, adding that): Afterwards another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy, blessings and forgiveness be upon you! whereupon he said: Forty. adding: Thus are excellent qualities rewarded.

Narrated Abu Umamah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Those who are nearest to Allah are they who are first to give a salutation.

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The young should salute the old, the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting, and a small company should salute a large one.

Muawiyah said: Abd al-Wahhab bin Bakht transmitted a similar tradition to me from Abu al-Zinad, from al-Araj, from Abu Hurairah, from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.
