Narrated Muadh ibn Anas: (This version is same as previous No 5176 from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, adding that): Afterwards another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy, blessings and forgiveness be upon you! whereupon he said: Forty. adding: Thus are excellent qualities rewarded.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَظُنُّ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ نَافِعَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو مَرْحُومٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَعْنَاهُ،‏‏‏‏ زَادَ ثُمَّ أَتَى آخَرُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْبَعُونَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا تَكُونُ الْفَضَائِلُ.

معاذ بن انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اسی مفہوم کی حدیث روایت کی ہے لیکن اس میں اتنا مزید ہے کہ پھر ایک اور شخص آیا اور اس نے کہا السلام علیکم ورحمتہ اﷲ وبرکاتہ ومغفرتہ تو آپ نے فرمایا: اسے چالیس نیکیاں ملیں گی، اور اسی طرح ( اور کلمات کے اضافے پر ) نیکیاں بڑھتی جائیں گی۔

Narrated Abu Umamah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Those who are nearest to Allah are they who are first to give a salutation.

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The young should salute the old, the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting, and a small company should salute a large one.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: When one of you meets his brother, he should salute him, then if he meets him again after a tree, wall or stone has come between them, he should also salute him. Muawiyah said: Abd al-Wahhab bin Bakht transmitted a similar tradition to me from Abu al-Zinad, from al-Araj, from Abu Hurairah, from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.
