Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم as saying: when you hear the cocks crowing, ask Allah for some of His grace, for they have seen as angel; but when you hear an ass braying, seek refuge in Allah from the devil, for it has seen the devil.

He added in his version: Ibn al-Had said: Shurahbil ibn al-Hajib told me on the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah from the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم similar to it.
