Narrated Muadh ibn Jabal: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If a Muslim sleeps while remembering Allah, in the state of purification, is alarmed while asleep at night, and asks Allah for good in this world and in the Hereafter. He surely gives it to him. Thabit al-Bunani said: Abu Zabyah came to visit us and he transmitted this tradition to us from Muadh ibn Jabal from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. Thabit said: So and so said: I tried my best to utter these (prayers) when I got up, but I could not do.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي ظَبْيَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَبِيتُ عَلَى ذِكْرٍ طَاهِرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَتَعَارُّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ خَيْرًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ ،‏‏‏‏ قال ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا أَبُو ظَبْيَةَ فَحَدَّثَنَا بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ ثَابِتٌ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ فُلَانٌ:‏‏‏‏ لَقَدْ جَهِدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَهَا حِينَ أَنْبَعِثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا.
معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جو بھی مسلمان اللہ تعالیٰ کو یاد کرتا ہوا باوضو سوتا ہے پھر رات میں ( کسی بھی وقت ) چونک کر اٹھتا ہے اور اللہ سے دنیا اور آخرت کی بھلائی کا سوال کرتا ہے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اسے ضرور دیتا ہے ۔ ثابت بنانی کہتے ہیں: ہمارے پاس ابوظبیہ آئے تو انہوں نے ہم سے معاذ بن جبل کی یہ حدیث بیان کی، جسے وہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے روایت کرتے ہیں۔ ثابت بنانی کہتے ہیں: فلاں شخص نے کہا ۱؎ کہ میں نے اپنی نیند سے بیدار ہوتے وقت کئی بار اس کلمہ کے ۲؎ادا کرنے کی کوشش کی مگر کہہ نہ سکا ۳؎۔

Al-Bara bin Azib said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said to me: When you go to your bed, perform ablution like the ablution for prayer, and then lie on your right side and say: O Allah I have handed over my face to thee, entrusted my affairs to thee, and committed my back to thee out of desire for and fear to thee. There is no refuge and no place of safety from thee except by having recource to thee. I believe in Thy Book which Thou hast sent down and in Thy prophet whom thou hast sent down. He said: If you die (that night), you would die in the true religion, and utter these words in the last of that you utter (other prayers). Al-Bara said: I said: I memorise them, and then I repeated, saying “and in Thy Messenger whom Thou hast sent”. He said: No, say: “and in Thy Prophet whom Thou hast sent.
