Qais bin Abbad said: I said to ‘All (Allah be pleased with him): Tell me about this march of yours. Is this an order that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had given you, or is this your opinion that you have? He said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not give me any order; but this is an opinion that I have.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْهُذَلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عُبَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُلِعَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ مَسِيرِكَ هَذَا أَعَهْدٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْ رَأْيٌ رَأَيْتَهُ ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَيْءٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ رَأْيٌ رَأَيْتُهُ .

قیس بن عباد کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا: ہمیں آپ ( معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے جنگ کے لیے ) اپنی اس روانگی کے متعلق بتائیے کہ آیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا کوئی حکم ہے جو انہوں نے آپ کو دیا ہے یا آپ کا اپنا خیال ہے جسے آپ درست سمجھتے ہیں، وہ بولے: مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کوئی حکم نہیں دیا بلکہ یہ میری رائے ہے۔

Abu Saeed reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: In the event of the dissension among Muslims an emerging sect will emerge ; one of the two parties that is nearer to the truth will kill it.

Ibn Abbas reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta.

Abdullah bin Jafar reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: It is not fitting for a prophet to say: I am better than Jonah son of matta.

Abu Hurairah said: A man from among the Jews said: By him who chose Moses above the universe. So a Muslim raised his hand and slapped the Jew on his face. The Jew went to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and informed him. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Do not make me superior to Moses, for mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) will swoon and I will be the know whether he was among those who swooned and had recovered before me, or he was among those of whom Allah had made an exception. Abu Dawud said: The tradition of Ibn yahya is more perfect.

Anas said: A man said to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: O best of all creatures! The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: That was Abraham صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.
