Thalabah bin Dubaiah said: We entered upon Hudhaifah. He said: I know a man whom the trails will not harm. We came out and found that a tent was pitched. We entered and found in it Muhammad bin Maslamah. We asked him about it. He said: I do not intent that any place of your towns should occupy me until that which is prevailing is removed.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ ضُبَيْعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى حُذَيْفَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ رَجُلًا لَا تَضُرُّهُ الْفِتَنُ شَيْئًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَخَرَجْنَا فَإِذَا فُسْطَاطٌ مَضْرُوبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَخَلْنَا فَإِذَا فِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ يَشْتَمِلَ عَلَيَّ شَيْءٌ مِنْ أَمْصَارِكُمْ حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ عَمَّا انْجَلَتْ .

ثعلبہ بن ضبیعہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس گئے تو آپ نے کہا: میں ایک ایسے شخص کو جانتا ہوں جسے فتنے کچھ بھی ضرر نہ پہنچا سکیں گے، ہم نکلے تو دیکھا کہ ایک خیمہ نصب ہے، ہم اندر گئے تو اس میں محمد بن مسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ ملے، ہم نے ان سے پوچھا ( کہ آبادی چھوڑ کر خیمہ میں کیوں ہیں؟ ) تو فرمایا: میں نہیں چاہتا کہ تمہارے شہروں کی کوئی برائی مجھ سے چمٹے، اس لیے جب تک فتنہ فرو نہ ہو جائے اور معاملہ واضح اور صاف نہ ہو جائے شہر کو نہیں جاؤں گا۔

Qais bin Abbad said: I said to ‘All (Allah be pleased with him): Tell me about this march of yours. Is this an order that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had given you, or is this your opinion that you have? He said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not give me any order; but this is an opinion that I have.

Abu Saeed reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: In the event of the dissension among Muslims an emerging sect will emerge ; one of the two parties that is nearer to the truth will kill it.

Ibn Abbas reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta.
