Narrated Abu Talhat al-Ansari: I heard the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: The angels do not enter a house which contains a dog or a picture. Zaid bin Khalid al-Juhani said to Saeed bin Yasar al-Ansari, the transmitter of this tradition: Go with me to Aishah, Mother of Faithful, so that we ask about it. So we went and said to her: Mother of Faithful, Abu Talhah has transmitted to us a tradition so-and-so. Have you heard the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم mentioning that ? She replied: No but I tell what I saw him doing. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم went on an expedition and I was waiting for his return. I got a carpet which I hung as a screen on a stick over the door. When he came I received him and said: Peace be upon you, Messenger of Allah, His mercy and His blessings. Praise to be Allah Who gave you dominance and respect. Then he looked at the house and saw the carpet; and he did not respond to me at all. I found (signs of) disapproval in his face. He then came to the carpet and tore it down. He then said: Allah has not commanded us to clothe stones and clay out of the sustenance He has given us. She said: I then cut it to pieces and made two pillows out of it and stuffed them with palm fibre, and he did not disapprove of it to me.

حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَدْخُلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلَا تِمْثَالٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ انْطَلِقْ بِنَا إِلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَائِشَةَ نَسْأَلْهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَانْطَلَقْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَذَا وَكَذَا فَهَلْ سَمِعْتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ سَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِمَا رَأَيْتُهُ فَعَلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ وَكُنْتُ أَتَحَيَّنُ قُفُولَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخَذْتُ نَمَطًا كَانَ لَنَا فَسَتَرْتُهُ عَلَى الْعَرَضِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا جَاءَ اسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَعَزَّكَ وَأَكْرَمَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَنَظَرَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ فَرَأَى النَّمَطَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ شَيْئًا وَرَأَيْتُ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَأَتَى النَّمَطَ حَتَّى هَتَكَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا فِيمَا رَزَقَنَا أَنْ نَكْسُوَ الْحِجَارَةَ وَاللَّبِنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَطَعْتُهُ وَجَعَلْتُهُ وِسَادَتَيْنِ وَحَشَوْتُهُمَا لِيفًا فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ .

ابوطلحہ انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: فرشتے ایسے گھر میں داخل نہیں ہوتے جس میں کتا یا مجسمہ ہو ۔ زید بن خالد نے جو اس حدیث کے راوی ہیں سعید بن یسار سے کہا: میرے ساتھ ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس چلو ہم ان سے اس بارے میں پوچھیں گے چنانچہ ہم گئے اور جا کر پوچھا: ام المؤمنین! ابوطلحہ نے ہم سے حدیث بیان کی ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہم سے ایسا ایسا فرمایا ہے تو کیا آپ نے بھی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس کا ذکر کرتے ہوئے سنا ہے؟ آپ نے کہا: نہیں، لیکن میں نے جو کچھ آپ کو کرتے دیکھا ہے وہ میں تم سے بیان کرتی ہوں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کسی غزوہ میں نکلے، میں آپ کی واپسی کی منتظر تھی، میں نے ایک پردہ لیا جو میرے پاس تھا اور اسے دروازے کی پڑی لکڑی پر لٹکا دیا، پھر جب آئے تو میں نے آپ کا استقبال کیا اور کہا: سلامتی ہو آپ پر اے اللہ کے رسول! اللہ کی رحمت اور اس کی برکتیں ہوں، شکر ہے اس اللہ کا جس نے آپ کو عزت بخشی اور اپنے فضل و کرم سے نوازا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے گھر پر نظر ڈالی، تو آپ کی نگاہ پردے پر گئی تو آپ نے میرے سلام کا کوئی جواب نہیں دیا، میں نے آپ کے چہرہ پر ناگواری دیکھی، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پردے کے پاس آئے اور اسے اتار دیا اور فرمایا: اللہ نے ہمیں یہ حکم نہیں دیا ہے کہ ہم اس کی عطا کی ہوئی چیزوں میں سے پتھر اور اینٹ کو کپڑے پہنائیں پھر میں نے کاٹ کر اس کے دو تکیے بنا لیے، اور ان میں کھجور کی چھال کا بھراؤ کیا، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میرے اس کام پر کوئی نکیر نہیں فرمائی۔

Narrated Abu Talhah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The angels do not enter the house which contains a picture. Busr (b. Saeed), the transmitter of this tradition, said: Zaid (b. Khalid al-Juhani) then fell it and we paid him a sick visit. There was a curtain with a picture hanging at his door. I then said to Ubaid Allah al-Khawlani', the step-son of Maimunah, wife of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: Did Zaid not tell us about pictures on the first day ? Ubaid Allah said: Did you not hear him when he said: Except a figure on a garment.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ordered Umar ibn al-Khattab who was in al-Batha' at the time of the conquest (of Makkah) to visit the Kabah and obliterate all images in it. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not enter it until all the images were obliterated.

Narrated Ibn Abbas: Maimunah, wife of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم reported him as saying: Gabriel صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم promised to visit me last night, but he did not visit me. Then it occurred to him that there was a pup under his bed. So he ordered and it was turned out. He then got water in his hand and sprinkled it on its place. When Gabriel صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم met him, he said: We do not enter a house which contains a dog or a picture. When the morning came, the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ordered to kill dogs. He ordered to kill the dog which guarded a small orchard, and left the dog which guarded the big orchard.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Gabriel صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came to me and said: I came to you last night and was prevented from entering simply because there were images at the door, for there was a decorated curtain with images on it in the house, and there was a dog in the house. So order the head of the image which is in the house to be cut off so that it resembles the form of a tree; order the curtain to be cut up and made into two cushions spread out on which people may tread; and order the dog to be turned out. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then did so. The dog belonged to al-Hasan or al-Husayn and was under their couch. So he ordered it to be turned out. Abu Dawud said: Al-Nadd means a thing on which clothes are placed like a couch.
