Al-Hakam ibn Uyaynah said that he went along with some people to Abdullah ibn Ukaym, a man of Juhaynah. al-Hakam said: They entered and I sat at the door. Then they came out and told me that Abdullah ibn Ukaym had informed them that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had written to Juhaynah one month before his death: Do not make use of the skin or sinew of an animal which died a natural death. Abu Dawud said: Al-Nadr bin Shumail said: The skin is called ihab when it is not tanned and when it is tanned, it not called ihab but na, es shann and qirbah (tanned skin or leather).

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الثَّقَفِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ أَنَّهُ انْطَلَقَ هُوَ وَنَاسٌ مَعَهُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الْحَكَمُ:‏‏‏‏ فَدَخَلُوا وَقَعَدْتُ عَلَى الْبَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَرَجُوا إِلَيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخْبَرُونِي أَنَّعَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُكَيْمٍ أَخْبَرَهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ إِلَى جُهَيْنَةَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِشَهْرٍ أَنْ لَا يَنْتَفِعُوا مِنَ الْمَيْتَةِ بِإِهَابٍ وَلَا عَصَبٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ فَإِذَا دُبِغَ لَا يُقَالُ لَه إِهَابٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّمَا يُسَمَّى شَنًّا وَقِرْبَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ يُسَمَّى إِهَابًا مَا لَمْ يُدْبَغْ.

حکم بن عتیبہ سے روایت ہے کہ وہ اور ان کے ساتھ کچھ اور لوگ عبداللہ بن عکیم کے پاس جو قبیلہ جہینہ کے ایک شخص تھے گئے، اندر چلے گئے، میں دروازے ہی پر بیٹھا رہا، پھر وہ لوگ باہر آئے اور انہوں نے مجھے بتایا کہ عبداللہ بن عکیم نے انہیں بتایا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی وفات سے ایک ماہ پیشتر جہینہ کے لوگوں کو لکھا: مردار کی کھال اور پٹھوں سے فائدہ نہ اٹھاؤ ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: نضر بن شمیل کہتے ہیں: «اہاب» ایسی کھال کو کہا جاتا ہے جس کی دباغت نہ ہوئی ہو، اور جب دباغت دے دی جائے تو اسے «اہاب»نہیں کہتے بلکہ اسے «شنّ» یا «قربۃ» کہا جاتا ہے ۱؎۔

Narrated Muawiyah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Do not ride on silk stuff and panther skins. Abu Saeed said to us: Abu Dawud said to us: The name of AbulMu'tamir is Yazid ibn Tahman. He lived in al-Hirah.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The angels do not accompany those fellow travellers who have panther skin.

Khalid said: Al-Miqdam ibn Madikarib and a man of Banu Asad from the people of Qinnisrin went to Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan. Muawiyah said to al-Miqdam: Do you know that al-Hasan ibn Ali has died? Al-Miqdam recited the Quranic verse We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. A man asked him: Do you think it a calamity? He replied: Why should I not consider it a calamity when it is a fact that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to take him on his lap, saying: This belongs to me and Husayn belongs to Ali? The man of Banu Asad said: (He was) a live coal which Allah has extinguished. Al-Miqdam said: Today I shall continue to make you angry and make you hear what you dislike. He then said: Muawiyah, if I speak the truth, declare me true, and if I tell a lie, declare me false. He said: Do so. He said: I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbidding use to wear gold? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prohibited the wearing of silk? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prohibited the wearing of the skins of beasts of prey and riding on them? He said: Yes. He said: I swear by Allah, I saw all this in your house, O Muawiyah. Muawiyah said: I know that I cannot be saved from you, O Miqdam. Khalid said: Muawiyah then ordered to give him what he did not order to give to his two companions, and gave a stipend of two hundred (dirhams) to his son. Al-Miqdam then divided it among his companions, and the man of Banu Asad did not give anything to anyone from the property he received. When Muawiyah was informed about it, he said: Al-Miqdam is a generous man; he has an open hand (for generosity). The man of Banu Asad withholds his things in a good manner.

Narrated Jabir: We were with the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم on a journey. He said: Make a general practice of wearing sandals, for a man keeps riding as long as he wears sandals.
