Narrated Abbad ibn Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr: My foster-father said to me - he was one of Banu Murrah ibn Awf, and he was present in that battle, the battle of Mu'tah: By Allah, as if I am seeing Jafar who jumped from his reddish horse and hamstrung it; he then fought with the people until he was killed. Abu Dawud said: The tradition is not strong.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد وَهُوَ يَحْيَى بْن عَبَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي الَّذِي أَرْضَعَنِي وَهُوَ أَحَدُ بَنِي مُرَّةَ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ فِي تِلْكَ الْغَزَاةِ غَزَاةِ مُؤْتَةَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى جَعْفَرٍ حِينَ اقْتَحَمَ عَنْ فَرَسٍ لَهُ شَقْرَاءَ فَعَقَرَهَا ثُمَّ قَاتَلَ الْقَوْمَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ.

عباد بن عبداللہ بن زبیر کہتے ہیں کہ میرے رضاعی والد نے جو بنی مرہ بن عوف میں سے تھے مجھ سے بیان کیا کہ وہ غزوہ موتہ کے غازیوں میں سے تھے، وہ کہتے ہیں: اللہ کی قسم! گویا کہ میں جعفر بن ابوطالب رضی اللہ عنہ کو دیکھ رہا ہوں جس وقت وہ اپنے سرخ گھوڑے سے کود پڑے اور اس کی کونچ کاٹ دی ۱؎، پھر دشمنوں سے لڑے یہاں تک کہ قتل کر دیئے گئے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث قوی نہیں ہے ۲؎۔

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Wagers are allowed only for racing camels, or horses or shooting arrows.

Abdullah bin Umar said “The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم held race between the horses which had been made lean by training from Al Hafya’. The goal was Thaniyyat Al Wada’ and he held a race between the horses Banu Zuraiq and Abd Allaah was one of the racers.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to make lean by training horses which he employed in the race.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to hold a race between horses and kept the one in the fifth year at a long distance.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: while she was on a journey along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: I had a race with him (the Prophet) and I outstripped him on my feet. When I became fleshy, (again) I had a race with him (the Prophet) and he outstripped me. He said: This is for that outstripping.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If one enters a horse with two others when he is not certain that it cannot be beaten, it is not gambling; but when one enters a horse with two others when he is certain it cannot be beaten, it is gambling.
