Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Wagers are allowed only for racing camels, or horses or shooting arrows.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ أَبِي نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا سَبْقَ إِلَّا فِي خُفٍّ أَوْ فِي حَافِرٍ أَوْ نَصْلٍ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: مقابلہ میں بازی رکھنا جائز نہیں ۱؎ سوائے اونٹ یا گھوڑے کی دوڑ میں یا تیر چلانے میں ۔

Abdullah bin Umar said “The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم held race between the horses which had been made lean by training from Al Hafya’. The goal was Thaniyyat Al Wada’ and he held a race between the horses Banu Zuraiq and Abd Allaah was one of the racers.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to make lean by training horses which he employed in the race.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to hold a race between horses and kept the one in the fifth year at a long distance.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: while she was on a journey along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: I had a race with him (the Prophet) and I outstripped him on my feet. When I became fleshy, (again) I had a race with him (the Prophet) and he outstripped me. He said: This is for that outstripping.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If one enters a horse with two others when he is not certain that it cannot be beaten, it is not gambling; but when one enters a horse with two others when he is certain it cannot be beaten, it is gambling.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Al Zuhri with the chain of Abbad and to the same affect. Abu Dawud said “This tradition has also been narrated by Mamar, Shuaib and Aqil on the authority of Al Zuhri from a number of scholars and this is the soundest one in our opinion.
