Narrated Maymunah, daughter of Kardam: I went out along with my father during the hajj performed by the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. My father came near him; he was riding his she-camel. He stopped there and listened to him. He had a whip like the whip of the teachers. I heard the Bedouin and the people saying: Keep away from the whip. My father came up to him. He caught hold of his foot and acknowledged him (his Prophethood). He stopped and listened to him. He then said: I participated in the army of Athran (in the pre-Islamic days). The narrator, Ibn al-Muthanna, said: Army of Gathran. Tariq ibn al-Muraqqa' said: Who will give me a lance and get a reward? I asked: What is its reward? He replied: I shall marry him to my first daughter born to me. So I gave him my lance and then disappeared from him till I knew that a daughter was born to him and she came of age. I then came to him and said: Send my wife to me. He swore that he would not do that until I fixed a dower afresh other than that agreed between me and him, and I swore that I should not give him the dower other than that I had given him before. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: How old is she now? He said: She has grown old. He said: I think you should leave her. He said: This put awe and fear into me, and I looked at the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. When he felt this in me, he said: You will not be sinful, nor will your companion be sinful. Abu Dawud said: Qatir means old age.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى الْمَعْنَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الطَّائِفِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَتْنِي سَارَةُ بِنْتُ مِقْسَمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ كَرْدَمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي فِي حَجَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَنَا إِلَيْهِ أَبِي وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَوَقَفَ لَهُ وَاسْتَمَعَ مِنْهُ وَمَعَهُ دِرَّةٌ كَدِرَّةِ الْكُتَّابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَسَمِعْتُ الْأَعْرَابَ وَالنَّاسَ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ:‏‏‏‏ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ الطَّبْطَبِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَنَا إِلَيْهِ أَبِي فَأَخَذَ بِقَدَمِهِ فَأَقَرَّ لَهُ وَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ وَاسْتَمَعَ مِنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي حَضَرْتُ جَيْشَ عِثْرَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى:‏‏‏‏ جَيْشَ غِثْرَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ طَارِقُ بْنُ الْمُرَقَّعِ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ يُعْطِينِي رُمْحًا بِثَوَابِهِ ؟ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا ثَوَابُهُ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُزَوِّجُهُ أَوَّلَ بِنْتٍ تَكُونُ لِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ رُمْحِي ثُمَّ غِبْتُ عَنْهُ حَتَّى عَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ وُلِدَ لَهُ جَارِيَةٌ وَبَلَغَتْ ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ أَهْلِي جَهِّزْهُنَّ إِلَيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَحَلَفَ أَنْ لَا يَفْعَلَ حَتَّى أُصْدِقَهُ صَدَاقًا جَدِيدًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَلَفْتُ لَا أُصْدِقُ غَيْرَ الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ وَبِقَرْنِ أَيِّ النِّسَاءِ هِيَ الْيَوْمَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ رَأَتِ الْقَتِيرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرَى أَنْ تَتْرُكَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَرَاعَنِي ذَلِكَ وَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ مِنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَأْثَمُ وَلَا يَأْثَمُ صَاحِبُكَ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ الْقَتِيرُ الشَّيْبُ.

سارہ بنت مقسم نے بیان کیا ہے کہ انہوں نے میمونہ بنت کردم رضی اللہ عنہا کو کہتے سنا کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے حج میں اپنے والد کے ساتھ نکلی، میرے والد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے قریب پہنچے، آپ اپنی اونٹنی پر سوار تھے تو وہ آپ کے پاس کھڑے ہو گئے، اور آپ کی باتیں سننے لگے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس معلموں کے درے کی طرح ایک درہ تھا، میں نے بدوؤں نیز دیگر لوگوں کو کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ تھپتھپانے سے بچو، تھپتھپانے سے بچو تھپتھپانے سے بچو ۱؎۔ میرے والد نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے قریب جا کر آپ کا پیر پکڑ لیا اور آپ کے رسول ہونے کا اقرار کیا، اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ٹھہرے رہے اور آپ کی بات کو غور سے سنا، پھر کہا کہ میں لشکر عثران ( یہ جاہلیت کی جنگ ہے ) میں حاضر تھا، ( ابن مثنی کی روایت میں جیش عثران کے بجائے جیش غثران ہے ) تو طارق بن مرقع نے کہا: مجھے اس کے عوض میں نیزہ کون دیتا ہے؟ میں نے پوچھا: اس کا عوض کیا ہو گا؟ کہا: میری جو پہلی بیٹی ہو گی اس کے ساتھ اس کا نکاح کر دوں گا، چنانچہ میں نے اپنا نیزہ اسے دے دیا اور غائب ہو گیا، جب مجھے پتہ چلا کہ اس کی بیٹی ہو گئی اور جوان ہو گئی ہے تو میں اس کے پاس پہنچ گیا اور اس سے کہا کہ میری بیوی کو میرے ساتھ رخصت کرو تو وہ قسم کھا کر کہنے لگا کہ وہ ایسا نہیں کر سکتا، جب تک کہ میں اسے مہر جدید ادا نہ کر دوں اس عہد و پیمان کے علاوہ جو میرے اور اس کے درمیان ہوا تھا، میں نے بھی قسم کھا لی کہ جو میں اسے دے چکا ہوں اس کے علاوہ کوئی اور مہر نہیں دے سکتا، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: اب وہ کن عورتوں کی عمر میں ہے ( یعنی اس کی عمر اس وقت کیا ہے ) ، اس نے کہا: وہ بڑھاپے کو پہنچ گئی ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میری رائے ہے کہ تم اسے جانے دو ، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی اس بات نے مجھے گھبرا دیا میں آپ کی جانب دیکھنے لگا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میری جب یہ حالت دیکھی تو فرمایا: ( گھبراؤ مت ) نہ تم گنہگار ہو گے اور نہ ہی تمہارا ساتھی ۲؎ گنہگار ہو گا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: روایت میں وارد لفظ «قتیر» کا مطلب بڑھاپا ہے۔

Ibrahim bin Maisarah reported from his maternal aunt who reported on the authority of a woman called Mussaddaqah (a truthful woman). She said “In pre Islamic days, when my father participated in a battle the feet of the people burnt due to intense heat. Thereupon a man said “Who gives me his shoes, I shall marry him to my first daughter born to me. My father took off his shoes and there them before him. A girl was thereafter born to him and came of age. ” The narrator then mentioned a similar story. But he did not mention that she had grown old.

Abu Salamah said “I asked Aishah about the dower given by the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. She said “It was twelve Uqiyahs and a nashsh”. I asked “What is nashsh?” She said it is half an uqiyah.

Abul Ajfa as-Sulami said: Umar (Allah be pleased with him) delivered a speech to us and said: Do not go to extremes in giving women their dower, for if it represented honour in this world and piety in Allah's sight, the one of you most entitled to do so would have been the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not marry any of his wives or gave any of his daughters in marriage for more than twelve uqiyahs.

Urwah reported on the authority of Umm Habibah that she was married to Abdullah ibn Jahsh who died in Abyssinia, so the Negus married her to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم giving her on his behalf a dower of four thousand (dirhams). He sent her to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم with Shurahbil ibn Hasanah. Abu Dawud said: Hasanah is his mother.

Az-Zuhri said: The Negus married Umm Habibah daughter of Abu Sufyan to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم for a dower of four thousand dirhams. He wrote it to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم who accepted it.

Narrated Anas: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم saw the trace of yellow on Abdur-Rahman bin Awf. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: What is this ? He replied: Messenger of Allah, I have married a woman. He asked: How much dower did you give her ? He said: A nawat weight of gold. He said: Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep.
