Ubayd ibn Jurayj said to Abdullah ibn Umar: Abu Abdur Rahman, I saw you doing things which I did not see being done by your companions. He asked: What are they, Ibn Jurayj? He replied: I saw you touching only the two Yamani corners; and I saw you wearing shoes having no hair; I saw you dyeing in yellow colour; and I saw you wearing ihram on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah, whereas the people had worn ihram when they sighted the moon. Abdullah ibn Umar replied: As regards the corners, I have not seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم touching anything (in the Kabah) but the two Yamani corners. As for the tanned leather shoes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم wearing tanned leather shoes, and he would wear them after ablution. Therefore I like to wear them. As regards wearing yellow, I have seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم wearing yellow, so I like to wear with it. As regards shouting the talbiyah, I have seen the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم raising his voice in talbiyah when his she-camel stood up with him on its back.

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏رَأَيْتُكَ تَصْنَعُ أَرْبَعًا لَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ يَصْنَعُهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا هُنَّ يَا ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْتُكَ لَا تَمَسُّ مِنَ الْأَرْكَانِ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ السِّبْتِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَصْبُغُ بِالصُّفْرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَأَيْتُكَ إِذَا كُنْتَ بِمَكَّةَ أَهَلَّ النَّاسُ إِذَا رَأَوْا الْهِلَالَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ تُهِلَّ أَنْتَ حَتَّى كَانَ يَوْمَ التَّرْوِيَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَّا الْأَرْكَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمَسُّ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا النِّعَالُ السِّبْتِيَّةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَعْرٌ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا الصُّفْرَةُ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْبُغُ بِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَصْبُغَ بِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا الْإِهْلَالُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُهِلُّ حَتَّى تَنْبَعِثَ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ .

عبید بن جریج سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے کہا: ابوعبدالرحمٰن! میں نے آپ کو چار کام ایسے کرتے دیکھا ہے جنہیں میں نے آپ کے اصحاب میں سے کسی کو کرتے نہیں دیکھا ہے؟ انہوں نے پوچھا: وہ کیا ہیں ابن جریج؟ وہ بولے: میں نے دیکھا کہ آپ صرف رکن یمانی اور حجر اسود کو چھوتے ہیں، اور دیکھا کہ آپ ایسی جوتیاں پہنتے ہیں جن کے چمڑے میں بال نہیں ہوتے، اور دیکھا آپ زرد خضاب لگاتے ہیں، اور دیکھا کہ جب آپ مکہ میں تھے تو لوگوں نے چاند دیکھتے ہی احرام باندھ لیا لیکن آپ نے یوم الترویہ ( آٹھویں ذی الحجہ ) کے آنے تک احرام نہیں باندھا، تو عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: رہی رکن یمانی اور حجر اسود کی بات تو میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو صرف انہیں دو کو چھوتے دیکھا ہے، اور رہی بغیر بال کی جوتیوں کی بات تو میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایسی جوتیاں پہنتے دیکھی ہیں جن میں بال نہیں تھے اور آپ ان میں وضو کرتے تھے، لہٰذا میں بھی انہی کو پہننا پسند کرتا ہوں، اور رہی زرد خضاب کی بات تو میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو زرد رنگ کا خضاب لگاتے دیکھا ہے، لہٰذا میں بھی اسی کو پسند کرتا ہوں، اور احرام کے بارے میں یہ ہے کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس وقت تک لبیک پکارتے نہیں دیکھا جب تک کہ آپ کی سواری آپ کو لے کر چلنے کے لیے کھڑی نہ ہو جاتی۔

Anas said: Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prayed four rak’ahs at Madinah and prayed two rak’ahs of afternoon prayer at Dhu-al Hulaifah. He then passed the night at Dhu-al Hulaifah till the morning came. When he rode on his mount and it stood up on its back, he raised his voice in talbiyah.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم offered the noon prayer, and then rode on his mount. When he came to the hill of al-Bayda', he raised his voice in talbiyah.

Narrated Saad ibn Abi Waqqas: When the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him0 undertook his journey by the way of al-Far', he shouted talbiyah when his mount stood up with him on its back. But when he travelled by the way of Uhud, he raised his voice in Talbiyah when he ascended the hill of al-Bayda'.

Ibn Abbas said: Duba`ah, daughter of al-Zubair bin Abd al-Muttalib, came to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and said Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم I want to perform Hajj; may I make a provision? He said Yes. She asked how should I say? He replied: Say “ Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik (I am at Thy service, Oh Allah, I am at Thy service). The place where I took off Ihram will be where Thou restrainest me. ”

Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم performed Hajj exclusively (without performing Umrah in the beginning).

Aishah said: We went out along with The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم when the moon of the month of Dhu al-Hijja was going to appear shortly. When he reached Dhu al-Hulaifah he said: Anyone who wants to perform Hajj should raise his voice in Talbiyah for Hajj (after wearing Ihram); and he who wants to perform Umrah should raise his voice in talbiyah for an Umrah. The narrator Musa in the version of Wuhaib reported him (the Prophet) as saying if there were no sacrificial animals with me, I would raise my voice in talbiyah for an Umrah. But according to the version of Hammad bin Salamah, he said as for myself, I shall raise my voice in talbiyah for Hajj because I have sacrificial animal with me. The agreed version goes I (Aishah) was one of those persons who wore Ihram for an ‘Umrah. But on my way (to Makkah) I menstruated. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم entered upon me while I was weeping. He asked why are you weeping? I wished I would not come out (for Hajj) this year. He said give up your Umrah; untie your hair and comb. The version of Musa said and raise your voice in talbiyah for Hajj (after wearing Ihram). Sulaiman’s version goes and do as all the Muslims do during their Hajj. When the night for performing the obligatory circumambulation (tawaf al-Ziyarah) came, the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم commanded Abdur-Rahman. He took her to al-Tan’im (instead of the words “her ‘Umrah”). She went round the Kaabah. Allah thus completed both her ‘Umrah and Hajj. Hisham said: No sacrificial animal was offered during all this time. In the version of Hammad bin Salamah, the narrator Musa added when the night of al-Batha came Ai’ shah was purified.
