Ali bin Abi Talib said: When the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم uttered salutation at the end of the prayer, he used to say: O Allah, forgive me my former and latter sins, what I have kept secret and what I have done openly, and what I have done extravagance; and what You know better than I do. You are the Advancer, the Delayer, there is no god but You.

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمِّهِ الْمَاجِشُونِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ .

علی بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب نماز سے سلام پھیرتے تو کہتے: «اللهم اغفر لي ما قدمت وما أخرت، وما أسررت وما أعلنت، وما أسرفت، وما أنت أعلم به مني، أنت المقدم وأنت المؤخر لا إله إلا أنت» اے اللہ! میرے اگلے پچھلے گناہ معاف کر دے اور وہ تمام گناہ جنہیں میں نے چھپ کر اور کھلم کھلا کیا ہو، اور جو زیادتی کی ہو اسے اور اس گناہ کو جسے تو مجھ سے زیادہ جانتا ہے، بخش دے۔ تو جسے چاہے آگے کرے، جسے چاہے پیچھے کرے، تیرے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں ۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to supplicate Allah: My Lord, help me and do not give help against me; grant me victory, and do not grant victory over me; plan on my behalf and do not plan against me; guide me, and made my right guidance easy for me; grant me victory over those who act wrongfully towards me; O Allah, make me grateful to Thee, mindful of Thee, full of fear towards Thee, devoted to Thy obedience, humble before Thee, or penitent. My Lord, accept my repentance, wash away my sin, answer my supplication, clearly establish my evidence, guide my heart, make true my tongue and draw out malice in my breast.

The aforesaid tradition has also been transmitted by Amr bin Murrah through a different chain of narrators to the same effect. This version adds: And make right guidance easy for me. The narrator did not say: my right guidance . Abu Dawud said: Sufyan heard eighteen traditions from Amr bin Murrah.

Aishah said: When the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم uttered taslim, he used to say: O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity.

Thawban, the client of Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم finished the prayer, he asked forgiveness three times and said: O Allah. . . . . The narrator then narrated the tradition like that of Aishah.

Al-Agharr al-Muzani said (Musaddad in his version of this tradition said that he was a Companion of the Prophet): The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: My heart is invaded by unmindfulness, and I ask Allah's pardon a hundred times in the day.
