Zaid bin Thabit said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم built a chamber in the mosque. He used to come out at night and pray there. They (the people) also prayed along with him. They would come (to prayer) every night. If on any night the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not come out, they would cough, raise their voices and throw pebbles and sand on his door. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came out to time in anger and said: O People, you kept on doing this till I thought that it will be prescribed for you. Offer your prayers in your houses, for a man's prayer is better in his house except obligatory prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَزَّازُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ احْتَجَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حُجْرَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَيُصَلِّي فِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُ لِصَلَاتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَعْنِي رِجَالًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانُوا يَأْتُونَهُ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيَالِي لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَنَحْنَحُوا وَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ وَحَصَبُوا بَابَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُغْضَبًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا زَالَ بِكُمْ صَنِيعُكُمْ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنْ سَتُكْتَبَ عَلَيْكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ صَلَاةِ الْمَرْءِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ .

زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مسجد کے ایک حصہ کو چٹائی سے گھیر کر ایک حجرہ بنا لیا، آپ رات کو نکلتے اور اس میں نماز پڑھتے تھے، کچھ لوگوں نے بھی آپ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھنی شروع کر دی وہ ہر رات آپ کے پاس آنے لگے یہاں تک کہ ایک رات آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ان کی طرف نہیں نکلے، لوگ کھنکھارنے اور آوازیں بلند کرنے لگے، اور آپ کے دروازے پر کنکر مارنے لگے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم غصے میں ان کی طرف نکلے اور فرمایا: لوگو! تم مسلسل ایسا کئے جا رہے تھے یہاں تک کہ مجھے گمان ہوا کہ کہیں تم پر یہ فرض نہ کر دی جائے، لہٰذا اب تم کو چاہیئے کہ گھروں میں نماز پڑھا کرو اس لیے کہ آدمی کی سب سے بہتر نماز وہ ہے جسے وہ اپنے گھر میں پڑھے ۱؎ سوائے فرض نماز کے ۔

Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Some offer prayer in your houses; do not make them graves.

Abdullah bin Habshi al-Khath'ami said: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was asked: Which of the actions is better ? He replied: Standing for long time (in prayer). He was again asked: Which alms is better ? He replied: The alms given by a man possessing small property acquired by his labour.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: May Allah show mercy to a man who gets up during the night and prays, who wakens his wife and she prays; if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. May Allah show mercy to a woman who gets up during the night and prays, who wakens her husband and he prays; if he refuses she sprinkles water on his face.

Narrated Abu Saeed ; Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When a man himself wakes at night and wakens his wife and they pray two rak'ahs together, they are recorded among the men and women who make much mention of Allah.

So what do you think of him who acts according to this ?
