Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recited the supplication in the night prayer for a month. He said (in his supplication): O Allah, rescue al-Walid bin al-Walid, rescue Salamah bin Hisham, rescue the weak believers; O Allah, trample severely on Mudar; O Allah, cause them a famine like that of Joseph. Abu Hurairah said: One morning the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم id not make supplication for them. So I told him about it. He said: You dod not see that they have come (back).

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَنَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعَتَمَةِ شَهْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ فِي قُنُوتِهِ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ نَجِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمْ يَدْعُ لَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا تُرَاهُمْ قَدْ قَدِمُوا .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک ماہ تک عشاء میں دعائے قنوت پڑھی، آپ اس میں دعا فرماتے:«اللهم نج الوليد بن الوليد اللهم نج سلمة بن هشام اللهم نج المستضعفين من المؤمنين اللهم اشدد وطأتك على مضر اللهم اجعلها عليهم سنين كسني يوسف» اے اللہ! ولید بن ولید کو نجات دے، اے اللہ! سلمہ بن ہشام کو نجات دے، اے اللہ! کمزور مومنوں کو نجات دے، اے اللہ! مضر پر اپنا عذاب سخت کر اور ان پر ایسا قحط ڈال دے جیسا یوسف ( علیہ السلام ) کے زمانے میں پڑا تھا ) ۔ ابوہریرہ کہتے ہیں: ایک دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فجر میں ان لوگوں کے لیے دعا نہیں کی، تو میں نے اس کا ذکر آپ سے کیا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم نے نہیں دیکھا کہ یہ لوگ ( اب کافروں کی قید سے نکل کر مدینہ ) آ چکے ہیں؟ ۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recited the supplication (Qunut) daily for a month at the noon, afternoon, sunset, night and morning prayers. When he said: Allah listens to him who praises Him in the last rak'ah, invoking a curse on some clans of Banu Sulaym, Ri'l, Dhakwan and Usayyah, and those who were standing behind him said: Amen.

Muhammad reported: Anas bin Malik was asked whether the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had recited supplication in the dawn prayer. He replied: Yes. He was again asked whether before bowing or after bowing. He said after bowing. This version of Musaddad adds the words: For a short period.

Anas bin Malik said: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recited the supplication for a month (in prayer) and then gave it up.

Narrated Someone who prayed with the Prophet: Muhammad ibn Sirin said: Someone who prayed the morning prayer along with the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم narrated to me: When he raised his head after the second rak'ah, he remained standing for a short while.

Zaid bin Thabit said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم built a chamber in the mosque. He used to come out at night and pray there. They (the people) also prayed along with him. They would come (to prayer) every night. If on any night the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم did not come out, they would cough, raise their voices and throw pebbles and sand on his door. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came out to time in anger and said: O People, you kept on doing this till I thought that it will be prescribed for you. Offer your prayers in your houses, for a man's prayer is better in his house except obligatory prayer.
