Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported that Abu Bakr Siddiq came to the residence of my father ('Azib) and bought a haudaj from him and said to 'Azib: Send your son to my residence (to carry this haudaj), and my father said to me: Carry it (for him). So I carried it and there went along with him (with Abu Bakr) my father in order to fetch its price and he ('Azib) said to Abu Bakr: Abu Bakr, narrate to me what you both did on the night when you set out on a journey along with Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ). He said: We set out during the night and went on walking until it was noon, and the path was vacant and so none passed by that (until) there appeared prominently before us a large rock. It had its shade and the rays of the sun did not reach that place. So we got down at that place. I then went to the rock and levelled the ground with my hands at the place where the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) would take rest under its shade. I then set the bedding and said: Allah's Messenger, go to sleep and I shall keep a watch around you. I went out and watched around him. There we saw a shepherd moving towards that rock with his flock and he intended what we intended (i. e. taking rest). I met him and said to him: Young boy, to which place do you belong? He said: I am a person from Medina. I said, is there any milk in the udders of your sheep and goats? He said: Yes. He took hold of a goat, and I said to him: Clean the udder well so that it should be free from hair, dust and impurity. I saw al-Bara' striking his hand upon the other (to give an indication) how he did that. He milked the goat for me in a wooden cup which he had with him and I had with me a bucket in which I kept water for drinking and for performing ablution. I came to Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and did not like to awaken him from sleep but he was accidentally startled from the sleep. I poured water upon the milk (till It was cold) and I said: Allah's Messenger, take this milk. He then took It and I was delighted and he (the Holy Prophet) said: Is now not the time to march on? I said: Of course. So he marched on after the sun had passed the meridian and Suraqa b. Malik pursued us and we had been walking on soft, level ground. I said: Allah's Messenger, we are about to be overtaken by them. Thereupon he said: Be not grieved. Verily, Allah is with us. Then Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) cursed him and his horse sank into the earth. I think he also said: I know you have hurled curse upon me. So supplicate Allah for me and I take an oath that I shall turn everyone away who would come in search of you. So he (Allah's Messenger) supplicated Allah and he was rescued and he came back and to everyone he met, he said: I have combed all this side. In short, he diverted everyone whom he met and he in fact fulfilled his promise.

حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ يَقُولُ جَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ إِلَى أَبِي فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَاشْتَرَى مِنْهُ رَحْلًا فَقَالَ لِعَازِبٍ ابْعَثْ مَعِيَ ابْنَكَ يَحْمِلْهُ مَعِي إِلَى مَنْزِلِي فَقَالَ لِي أَبِي احْمِلْهُ فَحَمَلْتُهُ وَخَرَجَ أَبِي مَعَهُ يَنْتَقِدُ ثَمَنَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ حَدِّثْنِي كَيْفَ صَنَعْتُمَا لَيْلَةَ سَرَيْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَسْرَيْنَا لَيْلَتَنَا كُلَّهَا حَتَّى قَامَ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ وَخَلَا الطَّرِيقُ فَلَا يَمُرُّ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ حَتَّى رُفِعَتْ لَنَا صَخْرَةٌ طَوِيلَةٌ لَهَا ظِلٌّ لَمْ تَأْتِ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ بَعْدُ فَنَزَلْنَا عِنْدَهَا فَأَتَيْتُ الصَّخْرَةَ فَسَوَّيْتُ بِيَدِي مَكَانًا يَنَامُ فِيهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ظِلِّهَا ثُمَّ بَسَطْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرْوَةً ثُمَّ قُلْتُ نَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَأَنَا أَنْفُضُ لَكَ مَا حَوْلَكَ فَنَامَ وَخَرَجْتُ أَنْفُضُ مَا حَوْلَهُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَاعِي غَنَمٍ مُقْبِلٍ بِغَنَمِهِ إِلَى الصَّخْرَةِ يُرِيدُ مِنْهَا الَّذِي أَرَدْنَا فَلَقِيتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لِمَنْ أَنْتَ يَا غُلَامُ فَقَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ قُلْتُ أَفِي غَنَمِكَ لَبَنٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ أَفَتَحْلُبُ لِي قَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَخَذَ شَاةً فَقُلْتُ لَهُ انْفُضْ الضَّرْعَ مِنْ الشَّعَرِ وَالتُّرَابِ وَالْقَذَى قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَضْرِبُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى يَنْفُضُ فَحَلَبَ لِي فِي قَعْبٍ مَعَهُ كُثْبَةً مِنْ لَبَنٍ قَالَ وَمَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ أَرْتَوِي فِيهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيَشْرَبَ مِنْهَا وَيَتَوَضَّأَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَهُ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ فَوَافَقْتُهُ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَى اللَّبَنِ مِنْ الْمَاءِ حَتَّى بَرَدَ أَسْفَلُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اشْرَبْ مِنْ هَذَا اللَّبَنِ قَالَ فَشَرِبَ حَتَّى رَضِيتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلرَّحِيلِ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ فَارْتَحَلْنَا بَعْدَمَا زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ وَاتَّبَعَنَا سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ وَنَحْنُ فِي جَلَدٍ مِنْ الْأَرْضِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أُتِينَا فَقَالَ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَارْتَطَمَتْ فَرَسُهُ إِلَى بَطْنِهَا أُرَى فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكُمَا قَدْ دَعَوْتُمَا عَلَيَّ فَادْعُوَا لِي فَاللَّهُ لَكُمَا أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَنْكُمَا الطَّلَبَ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ فَنَجَا فَرَجَعَ لَا يَلْقَى أَحَدًا إِلَّا قَالَ قَدْ كَفَيْتُكُمْ مَا هَاهُنَا فَلَا يَلْقَى أَحَدًا إِلَّا رَدَّهُ قَالَ وَوَفَى لَنَا

ابو اسحاق نے ہمیں حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : میں نے حضرت براء بن عازب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو بیان کرتے ہوئے سنا : حضرت ابو بکرصدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ میرے والد کے پاس ان کے گھر آئے اور ان سے ایک کجاوہ خریدا ، پھر ( میرے والد ) عازب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے کہنے لگے : اپنے بیٹے کو میرے ساتھ بھیج دیں ، وہ اس ( کجاوے ) کو میرے ساتھ اٹھا کر میرے گھر پہنچادے ۔ میرے والد نے مجھ سے کہا : اسے تم اٹھا لو تو میں نے اسے اٹھا لیا اور میرے والد اس کی قیمت لینے کے ہے ان کے ساتھ نکل پڑے ۔ میرے والد نے ان سے کہا : ابو بکر!مجھے یہ بتائیں کہ جس رات آپ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ( ہجرت کے لیے ) نکلے تو آپ دونوں نے کیا کیا؟انھوں نے کہا : ہاں ہم پوری رات چلتے ر ہے حتیٰ کہ دوپہر کا و قت ہوگیا اور ( دھوپ کی شدت سے ) راستہ خالی ہوگیا ، اس میں کوئی بھی نہیں چل رہا تھا ، اچانک ایک لمبی چٹان ہمارے سامنے بلند ہوئی ، اس کا سایہ بھی تھا ، اس پر ابھی دھوپ نہیں آئی تھی ۔ ہم اس کے پاس ( سواریوں سے ) اتر گئے ۔ میں چٹان کے پاس آیا ، ایک جگہ اپنے ہاتھ سے سنواری تاکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کے سائے میں سوجائیں ، پھر میں نے آپ کے لیے اس جگہ پر ایک نرم کھال بچھادی ، پھر عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !سوجائیے اور میں آپ کے اردگرد ( کے علاقے ) کی تلاشی لیتا ہوں ( اور نگہبانی کرتا ہوں ) آ پ سو گئے ، میں چاروں طرف نگرانی کرنے لگا تو میں نے دیکھا ایک چرواہا اپنی بکریاں لیے چنان کی طرف آرہاتھا ۔ وہ بھی اس کے پاس اسی طرح ( آرام ) کرنا چاہتا تھا جس طرح ہم چاہتے تھے ۔ میں اس سے ملا اور اس سے پوچھا : لڑکے !تم کس کے ( غلام ) ہو؟اس نے کہا : مدینہ کے ایک شخص کا ۔ میں نے کہا : کیا تمھاری بکریوں ( کے تھنوں ) میں دودھ ہے؟اس نے کہا : ہاں ۔ میں نے کہا : کیا تم میرے لیے دودھ نکالو گے؟اس نے کہا : ہاں ۔ اس نے ایک بکری کو پکڑا تو میں نے اس سے کہا : تھنوں سے بال ، مٹی اور تنکے جھاڑ لو ۔ ( ابو اسحاق نے ) کہا : تھنوں سے بال مٹی اور تنکے جھاڑ لو ۔ ( ابو اسحاق نے ) کہا : میں نے حضرت براء رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو دیکھا وہ اپنا ایک ہاتھ دوسرے پر مار کر جھاڑ رہے تھے ، چنانچہ اس نے میرے لیے لکڑی کے ایک پیالے میں تھوڑا سا دودھ نکال دیا ( حضرت ابو بکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ) کہا : میرے ہمراہ چمڑے کا ایک برتن ( بھی ) تھا ، میں اس میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے لیے پانی بھر کر رکھتا تھا تاکہ آپ نوش فرمائیں اور وضو کریں ۔ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور مجھے یہ بات پسند نہ تھی کہ آپ کو جگاؤں ، لیکن میں پہنچا تو آپ جاگ چکے تھے ۔ میں نے دودھ پر کچھ پانی ڈالا ، یہاں تک کہ اس کے نیچے کا حصہ بھی ٹھنڈا ہوگیاتو میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !یہ دودھ نوش فرمالیں ۔ آپ نے نوش فرمایا ، یہاں تک کہ میں راضی ہوگیا ۔ پھر آپ نے فرمایا : " کیا چلنے کاوقت نہیں آیا؟ " میں نے عرض کی : کیوں نہیں!کہا : پھر سورج ڈھل جانے کے بعد ہم روان ہوگئے اور سراقہ بن مالک ہمارے پیچھے آگیا ، جبکہ ہم ایک سخت زمین میں ( چل رہے ) تھے ۔ میں نے عرض کی : ہمیں لیا گیا ہے ، آپ نے فرمایا : " غم نہ کرو اللہ ہمارے ساتھ ہے ۔ " پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے خلاف دعا کی تو اس کے گھوڑے کی ٹانگیں پیٹ تک زمین میں دھنس گئیں ۔ میرا خیال ہے ۔ اس نے کہا : مجھے پتہ چل گیا ہے تم دونوں نے میرے خلاف دعا کی ہے ۔ میرے حق میں دعا کرو ۔ ( میری طرف سے ) تمہارے لیے اللہ ضامن ہے کہ میں ڈھونڈنے والوں کو تمہاری طرف سے لوٹاؤں گا ۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے لیے دعا کی تو وہ بچ گیا ، پھر وہ لوٹ گیا ۔ جس ( پچھاڑنے والے ) کو ملتا اس سے یہ کہتا : میں ( تلاش کرچکا ہوں ) تمہاری طرف سے بھی کفایت کرتا ہوں ، وہ اس طرف نہیں ہیں وہ جس کسی کو بھی ملتا اسے لوٹا دیتا ۔ ( حضرت ابو بکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ) کہا : انھوں نے ہمارے ساتھ وفا کی ۔

Al-Bara' reported: Abu Bakr purchased a saddle from me for thirteen dirhams; the rest of the hadith is the same, and in the narration of Uthman b. 'Umar, the words are: He (Suraqa b. Malik) drew near Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), and he (the Holy Prophet) cursed him and his camel sank in the earth up to the belly and he jumped from that and said: Muhammad, I am fully aware of It that it is your doing. Supplicate Allah that He should rescue me from it in which I am (pitchforked) and I give you a solemn pledge that I shall keep this as a secret from all those who are coming after me. Take hold of an arrow out of it (quiver) for you will find my camels and my slaves at such and such place and you can get whatever you need (on showing this arrow). He (the Holy Prophet) said: I don't need your camels. And we (the Prophet and Abu Bakr) came to Medina during the night and the people began to contend as to where Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) should reside and he encamped in the tribe of Najjar who were related to 'Abd ul-Muttalib from the side of mother. Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) honoured them, then people climbed upon house-top and women also and boys scattered in the way, and they were all crying: Muhammad, Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, Messenger of Allah.

Hammim b. Munabbih reported: This is what Abu Huraira reported to us from Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) and in this connection he narrated some of the ahadith and Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: It was said to people of Israel: Enter this land saying Hitta (Remove Thou from us the burden of our sins), whereupon We would forgive you your sins, but they twisted (this statement) and entered the gate dragging upon their breech and said: The grain in the ear.

Anas b. Malik reported that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, sent revelation to Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) just before his death in quick succession until he left for his heavenly home, and the day when he died, he received the revelation profusely.

Tariq b. Shihab reported that a Jew said to'Umar: You recite a verse which, if it had been revealed in relation to us, we would have taken that day as the day of rejoicing. Thereupon 'Umar said: I know where it was revealed and on the day when it was revealed and where Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) had been at that time when it was revealed. It was revealed on the day of 'Arafa (ninth of Dhu'l Hijjah) and Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) had been staying in 'Arafat. Sufyan said: I doubt, whether it was Friday or not (and the verse referred to) is this: Today I have perfected your religion for you and completed My favours upon you (v. 4).

Tariq b. Shihab reported that a Jew said to 'Umar: If this verse were revealed in relation to the Jews (i e. This day I have perfected your religion for you and have completed My favours for you and have chosen for you al-Islam as religion ) we would have taken the day of rejoicing on which this verse was revealed. Thereupon 'Umar said: I know the day on which it was revealed and the hour when it was revealed and where Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) had been when it was revealed. It was revealed on the night of Friday and we were in 'Arafat with Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) at that time.

Tariq b. Shihab reported that a Jew came to 'Umar and said: Commander of the Faithful, there is a verse in your Book, which you recite. Had it been revealed in connection with the Jews, we would have taken it as the day of rejoicing. Thereupon he said: Which verse do you mean? He replied: This day I have perfected your religion for you and I have completed My favours upon you and I have chosen al-Islam as religion for you. Umar said, I know the day when it was revealed and the place where it was revealed. It was revealed to Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) at 'Arafat on Friday.
