A'isha reported: The prayer was prescribed as consisting of two rak'ahs, the prayer in travelling remained the same, but the prayer at the place of residence was completed. (Zuhri said he asked 'Urwa why 'A'isha said prayer in the complete form during journey, and he replied that she interpreted the matter herself as 'Uthman did.)

و حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ أَوَّلَ مَا فُرِضَتْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأُقِرَّتْ صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ وَأُتِمَّتْ صَلَاةُ الْحَضَرِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ فَقُلْتُ لِعُرْوَةَ مَا بَالُ عَائِشَةَ تُتِمُّ فِي السَّفَرِ قَالَ إِنَّهَا تَأَوَّلَتْ كَمَا تَأَوَّلَ عُثْمَانُ

ابن عینیہ نے زہری سے انھوں نے عروہ سے اور انھوں نے حضرت عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت کی کہ ابتدا میں نماز دو رکعت فرض کی گئی ، پھر سفر کی نماز ، ( اسی حالت میں ) برقرار رکھی گئی اور حضر کی نماز مکمل کردی گئی ۔ امام زہری نے کہا : میں نے عروہ سے پوچھا حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کا موقف کیا ہے ۔ وہ سفر میں پوری نماز ( کیوں ) پڑھتی تھیں؟انھوں نے کہا : انھوں نے اس کا ایک مفہوم لے لیا ہے جس طرح عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے لیا ۔

Yahya b. Umayya said: I told 'Umar b. al-Khattab that Allah had said: You may shorten the prayer only if you fear that those who are unbelievers may afflict you (Qur'an, iv. 101), whereas the people are now safe. He replied: I wondered about it in the same way as you wonder about it, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) about it and he said: It is an act of charity which Allah has done to you, so accept His charity.

Ya'la b. Umayya reported: I said to 'Umar b. al-Khattab, and the rest of the hadlth is the same.

Ibn 'Abbas reported: Allah has prescribed the prayer through the word of your Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as four rak'ahs when resident, two when travelling, and one when danger is present.

Ibn 'Abbas reported: Allah has prescribed the prayer by the tongue of your Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as two rak'ahs for the traveller, four for the resident, and one in danger.

Musa b. Salama Hudhali said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas: How should I say prayer when I am in Mecca, and when I do not pray along with the Imam? He said: Two rak'ahs (of prayer) is the Sunnah of Abu'l-Qasim ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ).
