Ma'dan b. Talha reported: I met Thauban, the freed slave. of Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), and asked him to tell me about an act for which, if I do it, Allah will admit me to Paradise, or I asked about the act which was loved most by Allah. He gave no reply. I again asked and he gave no reply. I asked him for the third time, and he said: I asked Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) about that and he said: Make frequent prostrations before Allah, for you will not make one prostration without raising you a degree because of it, and removing a sin from you, because of it. Ma'dan said that then lie met Abu al-Darda' and when he asked him, he received a reply similar to that given by Thauban.

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْأَوْزَاعِيَّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُعَيْطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي مَعْدَانُ بْنُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْيَعْمَرِيُّ، قَالَ: لَقِيتُ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ أَعْمَلُهُ يُدْخِلُنِي اللهُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ؟ أَوْ قَالَ قُلْتُ: بِأَحَبِّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللهِ، فَسَكَتَ. ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَسَكَتَ. ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «عَلَيْكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ لِلَّهِ، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً، إِلَّا رَفَعَكَ اللهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً، وَحَطَّ عَنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً» قَالَ مَعْدَانُ: ثُمَّ لَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي: مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ لِي: ثَوْبَانُ

۔ معدان بن ابی طلحہ یعمری نے کہا : میں رسول اللہﷺ کے آزاد کردہ غلام ثوبان ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے ملا تو میں نے کہا : مجھے کوئی ایسا عمل بتائیے جسے کروں تو اللہ اس کی وجہ سے مجھے جنت میں داخل فرما دے ، یا انہوں نے کہا : میں نے پوچھا : جو عمل اللہ کو سب سے زیادہ محبوب ہو ، تو ثوبان ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نے خاموشی اختیار فرمائی ( اور میری بات کا کوئی جواب نہ دیا ) پھر میں نے دوبارہ ان سے سوال کیا ، انہوں نے خاموشی اختیار کر لی ، پھر میں نے ان سے تیسری دفعہ یہی سوال کیا تو انہوں نے کہا : میں نے یہی سوال رسول اللہﷺ سے کیا تھا تو آپ نے فرمایا تھا : ’’تم اللہ کے حضور کثرت سے سجدے کیا کرو کیونکہ تم اللہ کے لیے جو بھی سجدہ کرو گے اللہ اس کے نتیجے میں تمہارا درجہ ضرور بلند کرے گا اور تمہارا کوئی گناہ معاف کر دے گا ۔ ‘ ‘ معدان نے کہا : پھر میں ابو درداء ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے ملا تو ان سے ( یہی ) سوال کیا ، انہوں نے بھی مجھ س وہی کہا جو ثوبان ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نے کہا تھا ۔

Rabi'a b. Ka'b said: I was with Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) one night. and I brought him water and what he required. He said to me: Ask (anything you like). I said: I ask your company in Paradise. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Or anything else besides it. I said: That is all (what I require). He said: Then help me to achieve this for you by devoting yourself often to prostration.

Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) had been commanded that he should prostrate on the seven (bones) and he was forbidden to fold back the hair and clothing. And in the narration transmitted by Abu Rabi' (the words are): on the seven bones and I was forbidden to fold back the hair and clothing . According to Abu'l-Rabi' (the seven bones are): The hands, the knees, and the (extremities) of the feet and the forehead.

Ibn 'Abbas reported from the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ): I was commanded to prostrate myself on seven bones and not to fold back clothing or hair.

Ibn Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: I have been commanded to prostrate myself on seven bones: forehead, and then pointed with his hand towards his nose, hands, feet, and the extremities of the feet; and we were forbidden to fold back clothing and hair.
