Narrated Muhammad bin `Amr bin `Ata': I was sitting with some of the companions of Allah's Apostle and we were discussing about the way of praying of the Prophet. Abu Humaid As-Sa`idi said, I remember the prayer of Allah's Apostle better than any one of you. I saw him raising both his hands up to the level of the shoulders on saying the Takbir; and on bowing he placed his hands on both knees and bent his back straight, then he stood up straight from bowing till all the vertebrate took their normal positions. In prostrations, he placed both his hands on the ground with the forearms away from the ground and away from his body, and his toes were facing the Qibla. On sitting In the second rak`a he sat on his left foot and propped up the right one; and in the last rak`a he pushed his left foot forward and kept the other foot propped up and sat over the buttocks.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، وَيَزِيدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ جَالِسًا مَعَ نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْنَا صَلَاةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ : أَنَا كُنْتُ أَحْفَظَكُمْ لِصَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَيْتُهُ إِذَا كَبَّرَ جَعَلَ يَدَيْهِ حِذَاءَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ ، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ أَمْكَنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ رُكْبَتَيْهِ ثُمَّ هَصَرَ ظَهْرَهُ ، فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ اسْتَوَى حَتَّى يَعُودَ كُلُّ فَقَارٍ مَكَانَهُ ، فَإِذَا سَجَدَ وَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ غَيْرَ مُفْتَرِشٍ وَلَا قَابِضِهِمَا وَاسْتَقْبَلَ بِأَطْرَافِ أَصَابِعِ رِجْلَيْهِ الْقِبْلَةَ ، فَإِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ جَلَسَ عَلَى رِجْلِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَنَصَبَ الْيُمْنَى ، وَإِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْآخِرَةِ قَدَّمَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَى وَنَصَبَ الْأُخْرَى وَقَعَدَ عَلَى مَقْعَدَتِهِ ، وَسَمِعَ اللَّيْثُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، وَيَزِيدُ مِنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ ، وَابْنُ حَلْحَلَةَ مِنِ ابْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو صَالِحٍ : عَنْ اللَّيْثِ كُلُّ فَقَارٍ ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ : عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَهُ كُلُّ فَقَارٍ .

ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے لیث نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے خالد سے بیان کیا، ان سے سعید نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن عمرو بن عطاء نے بیان کیا (دوسری سند) اور کہا کہ مجھ سے لیث نے بیان کیا، اور ان سے یزید بن ابی حبیب اور یزید بن محمد نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن عمرو بن عطاء نے بیان کیا کہ وہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے چند اصحاب رضوان اللہ علیہم اجمعین کے ساتھ بیٹھے ہوئے تھے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز کا ذکر ہونے لگا تو ابو حمید ساعدی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ مجھے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز تم سب سے زیادہ یاد ہے میں نے آپ کو دیکھا کہ جب آپ تکبیر کہتے تو اپنے ہاتھوں کو کندھوں تک لے جاتے، جب آپ رکوع کرتے تو گھٹنوں کو اپنے ہاتھوں سے پوری طرح پکڑ لیتے اور پیٹھ کو جھکا دیتے۔ پھر جب رکوع سے سر اٹھاتے تو اس طرح سیدھے کھڑے ہو جاتے کہ تمام جوڑ سیدھے ہو جاتے۔ جب آپ سجدہ کرتے تو آپ اپنے ہاتھوں کو ( زمین پر ) اس طرح رکھتے کہ نہ بالکل پھیلے ہوئے ہوتے اور نہ سمٹے ہوئے۔ پاؤں کی انگلیوں کے منہ قبلہ کی طرف رکھتے۔ جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دو رکعتوں کے بعد بیٹھتے تو بائیں پاؤں پر بیٹھتے اور دایاں پاؤں کھڑا رکھتے اور جب آخری رکعت میں بیٹھتے بائیں پاؤں کو آگے کر لیتے اور دائیں کو کھڑا کر دیتے پھر مقعد پر بیٹھتے۔ لیث نے یزید بن ابی حبیب سے اور یزید بن محمد بن حلحلہ سے سنا اور محمد بن حلحلہ نے ابن عطاء سے، اور ابوصالح نے لیث سے «كل فقار مكانه» نقل کیا ہے اور ابن مبارک نے یحییٰ بن ایوب سے بیان کیا انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھ سے یزید بن ابی حبیب نے بیان کیا کہ محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلہ نے ان سے حدیث میں «كل فقار» بیان کیا۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin Buhaina: (he was from the tribe of Uzd Shanu'a [??] and was the ally of the tribe of `Abdul-Manaf and was one of the companions of the Prophet): Once the Prophet led us in the Zuhr prayer and stood up after the second rak`a and did not sit down. The people stood up with him. When the prayer was about to end and the people were waiting for him to say the Taslim, he said Takbir while sitting and prostrated twice before saying the Taslim and then he said the Taslim.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Malik bin Buhaina: Once Allah's Apostle led us in the Zuhr prayer and got up (after the prostrations of the second rak`a) although he should have sat (for the Tashahhud). So at the end of the prayer, he prostrated twice while sitting (prostrations of Sahu).

Narrated Shaqiq bin Salama: `Abdullah said, Whenever we prayed behind the Prophet we used to recite (in sitting) 'Peace be on Gabriel, Michael, peace be on so and so. Once Allah's Apostle looked back at us and said, 'Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), and if anyone of you prays then he should say, at-Tahiyatu li l-lahi wa ssalawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu `alalika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. Assalamu `alaina wa `ala `ibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (All the compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah; peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings [be on you]. Peace be on us an on the pious subjects of Allah). (If you say that, it will reach all the subjects in the heaven and the earth). Ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `Abduhu wa Rasuluh. (I testify that there is no Deity [worthy of worship] but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His Apostle).

Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Apostle used to invoke Allah in the prayer saying Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `adhabi l-qabr, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina l-ma'thami wa l-maghram. (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the afflictions of the imposter- Messiah, and from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt). Somebody said to him, Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt? The Prophet replied, A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them).

Aisha also narrated: I heard Allah's Apostle in his prayer seeking refuge with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.

Narrated Abu Bakr As-Siddiq: I asked Allah's Apostle to teach me an invocation so that I may invoke Allah with it in my prayer. He told me to say, Allahumma inni zalumtu nafsi zulman kathiran, Wala yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa anta, fa ghfir li maghfiratan min `indika, wa r-hamni, innaka anta l-ghafuru r-rahim (O Allah! I have done great injustice to myself and none except You forgives sins, so bestow on me a forgiveness from You, and Have Mercy on me, You are the Forgiver, the Merciful).
