Narrated Shaqiq bin Salama: `Abdullah said, Whenever we prayed behind the Prophet we used to recite (in sitting) 'Peace be on Gabriel, Michael, peace be on so and so. Once Allah's Apostle looked back at us and said, 'Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), and if anyone of you prays then he should say, at-Tahiyatu li l-lahi wa ssalawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu `alalika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. Assalamu `alaina wa `ala `ibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (All the compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah; peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings [be on you]. Peace be on us an on the pious subjects of Allah). (If you say that, it will reach all the subjects in the heaven and the earth). Ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `Abduhu wa Rasuluh. (I testify that there is no Deity [worthy of worship] but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His Apostle).

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ ، وَمِيكَائِيلَ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ وَفُلَانٍ ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ، فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُوهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ .

ہم سے ابونعیم فضل بن دکین نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے اعمش نے شقیق بن سلمہ سے بیان کیا کہ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ جب ہم نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پیچھے نماز پڑھتے تو کہتے ( ترجمہ ) سلام ہو جبرائیل اور میکائیل پر سلام ہو فلاں اور فلاں پر ( اللہ پر سلام ) نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک روز ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا اللہ تو خود ”سلام“ ہے۔ ( تم اللہ کو کیا سلام کرتے ہو ) اس لیے جب تم میں سے کوئی نماز پڑھے تو یہ کہے «التحيات لله،‏‏‏‏ والصلوات والطيبات،‏‏‏‏ السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته،‏‏‏‏ السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين‏» تمام آداب بندگی، تمام عبادات اور تمام بہترین تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں۔ آپ پر سلام ہو اے نبی اور اللہ کی رحمتیں اور اس کی برکتیں ہم پر سلام اور اللہ کے تمام صالح بندوں پر سلام۔ جب تم یہ کہو گے تو تمہارا سلام آسمان و زمین میں جہاں کوئی اللہ کا نیک بندہ ہے اس کو پہنچ جائے گا۔ میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد اس کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔

Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Apostle used to invoke Allah in the prayer saying Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `adhabi l-qabr, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina l-ma'thami wa l-maghram. (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the afflictions of the imposter- Messiah, and from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt). Somebody said to him, Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt? The Prophet replied, A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them).

Aisha also narrated: I heard Allah's Apostle in his prayer seeking refuge with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.

Narrated Abu Bakr As-Siddiq: I asked Allah's Apostle to teach me an invocation so that I may invoke Allah with it in my prayer. He told me to say, Allahumma inni zalumtu nafsi zulman kathiran, Wala yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa anta, fa ghfir li maghfiratan min `indika, wa r-hamni, innaka anta l-ghafuru r-rahim (O Allah! I have done great injustice to myself and none except You forgives sins, so bestow on me a forgiveness from You, and Have Mercy on me, You are the Forgiver, the Merciful).

Narrated `Abdullah: When we prayed with the Prophet we used to say, Peace be on Allah from His slaves and peace be on so and so. The Prophet said, Don't say As-Salam be on Allah, for He Himself is As-Salam, but say, at-tahiyatu li l-lahi wa s-salawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu `alaika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu `alaina wa `ala `ibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (If you say this then it will reach all the slaves in heaven or between heaven and earth). Ash-hadu al la-ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `Abduhu wa Rasuluh.' Then select the invocation you like best and recite it. (See Hadith No. 794, 795 & 796).

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: I saw Allah's Apostle prostrating in mud and water and saw the mark of mud on his forehead.

Narrated Um Salama: Whenever Allah's Apostle finished his prayers with Taslim, the women would get up and he would stay on for a while in his place before getting up. Ibn Shihab said, I think (and Allah knows better), that the purpose of his stay was that the women might leave before the men who had finished their prayer.
