Narrated Abu Sa`id: The Prophet mentioned a man from the previous generation or from the people preceding your age whom Allah had given both wealth and children. The Prophet said, When the time of his death approached, he asked his children, 'What type of father have I been to you?' They replied: You have been a good father. He said, 'But he (i.e. your father) has not stored any good deeds with Allah (for the Hereafter): if he should face Allah, Allah will punish him. So listen, (O my children), when I die, burn my body till I become mere coal and then grind it into powder, and when there is a stormy wind, throw me (my ashes) in it.' So he took a firm promise from his children (to follow his instructions). And by Allah they (his sons) did accordingly(fulfilled their promise.) Then Allah said, Be ' and behold! That man was standing there! Allah then said. O my slave! What made you do what you did? That man said, Fear of You. So Allah forgave him.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ذَكَرَ رَجُلًا فِيمَنْ كَانَ سَلَفَ أَوْ قَبْلَكُمْ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا يَعْنِي أَعْطَاهُ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا حُضِرَ ، قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ : أَيَّ أَبٍ كُنْتُ لَكُمْ ، قَالُوا : خَيْرَ أَبٍ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَبْتَئِرْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرًا ، فَسَّرَهَا قَتَادَةُ : لَمْ يَدَّخِرْ وَإِنْ يَقْدَمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ يُعَذِّبْهُ ، فَانْظُرُوا فَإِذَا مُتُّ ، فَأَحْرِقُونِي حَتَّى إِذَا صِرْتُ فَحْمًا ، فَاسْحَقُونِي أَوْ قَالَ : فَاسْهَكُونِي ، ثُمَّ إِذَا كَانَ رِيحٌ عَاصِفٌ فَأَذْرُونِي فِيهَا ، فَأَخَذَ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَرَبِّي ، فَفَعَلُوا ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ : كُنْ ، فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ قَائِمٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَيْ عَبْدِي ، مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتَ ، قَالَ : مَخَافَتُكَ أَوْ فَرَقٌ مِنْكَ فَمَا تَلَافَاهُ أَنْ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ ، فَحَدَّثْتُ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَلْمَانَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ زَادَ : فَأَذْرُونِي فِي الْبَحْرِ أَوْ كَمَا حَدَّثَ ، وَقَالَ مُعَاذٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ ، سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے معتمر نے بیان کیا، کہا میں نے اپنے والد سے سنا، ان سے قتادہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقبہ بن عبدالغافر نے اور ان سے ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پچھلی امتوں کے ایک شخص کا ذکر فرمایا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اسے مال و اولاد عطا فرمائی تھی۔ فرمایا کہ جب اس کی موت کا وقت آیا تو اس نے اپنے لڑکوں سے پوچھا، باپ کی حیثیت سے میں نے کیسا اپنے آپ کو ثابت کیا؟ لڑکوں نے کہا کہ بہترین باپ۔ پھر اس شخص نے کہا کہ اس نے اللہ کے پاس کوئی نیکی نہیں جمع کی ہے۔ قتادہ نے «لم يبتئر» کی تفسیر «لم يدخر» کہ نہیں جمع کی، سے کی ہے۔ اور اس نے یہ بھی کہا کہ اگر اسے اللہ کے حضور میں پیش کیا گیا تو اللہ تعالیٰ اسے عذاب دے گا ( اس نے اپنے لڑکوں سے کہا کہ ) دیکھو، جب میں مر جاؤں تو میری لاش کو جلا دینا اور جب میں کوئلہ ہو جاؤں تو مجھے پیس دینا اور کسی تیز ہوا کے دن مجھے اس میں اڑا دینا۔ اس نے اپنے لڑکوں سے اس پر وعدہ لیا چنانچہ لڑکوں نے اس کے ساتھ ایسا ہی کیا۔ پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا کہ ہو جا۔ چنانچہ وہ ایک مرد کی شکل میں کھڑا نظر آیا۔ پھر فرمایا، میرے بندے! یہ جو تو نے کرایا ہے اس پر تجھے کس چیز نے آمادہ کیا تھا؟ اس نے کہا کہ تیرے خوف نے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس کا بدلہ یہ دیا کہ اس پر رحم فرمایا۔ میں نے یہ حدیث عثمان سے بیان کی تو انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے سلمان سے سنا۔ البتہ انہوں نے یہ لفظ بیان کیے کہ ”مجھے دریا میں بہا دینا“ یا جیسا کہ انہوں نے بیان کیا اور معاذ نے بیان کیا کہ ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے قتادہ نے، انہوں نے عقبہ سے سنا، انہوں نے ابوسعید رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا اور انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے۔

Narrated Abu Musa: Allah's Apostle said. My example and the example of the message with which Allah has sent me is like that of a man who came to some people and said, I have seen with my own eyes the enemy forces, and I am a naked warner (to you) so save yourself, save yourself! A group of them obeyed him and went out at night, slowly and stealthily and were safe, while another group did not believe him and thus the army took them in the morning and destroyed them.

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, My example and the example of the people is that of a man who made a fire, and when it lighted what was around it, Moths and other insects started falling into the fire. The man tried (his best) to prevent them, (from falling in the fire) but they overpowered him and rushed into the fire. The Prophet added: Now, similarly, I take hold of the knots at your waist (belts) to prevent you from falling into the Fire, but you insist on falling into it.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: The Prophet said, A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue or his hands. And a Muhajir (an emigrant) is the one who gives up (abandons) all what Allah has forbidden.
