Narrated Al-Musaiyab: That his father (Hazn bin Wahb) went to the Prophet and the Prophet asked (him), What is your name? He replied, My name is Hazn. The Prophet said, You are Sahl. Hazn said, I will not change the name with which my father has named me. Ibn Al-Musaiyab added: We have had roughness (in character) ever since. Narrated Al-Musaiyab: on the authority of his father similarly as above (i.e., 209).
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : مَا اسْمُكَ ؟ قَالَ : حَزْنٌ قَالَ : أَنْتَ سَهْلٌ قَالَ : لَا أُغَيِّرُ اسْمًا سَمَّانِيهِ أَبِي قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ : فَمَا زَالَتِ الْحُزُونَةُ فِينَا بَعْدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَمَحْمُودٌ هُوَ ابْنُ غَيْلانَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، بِهَذَا .
ہم سے اسحاق بن نصر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے نے کہا ہم سے عبدالرزاق نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو معمر نے خبر دی، انہیں زہری نے، انہیں سعید بن مسیب نے اور انہیں ان کے والد مسیب رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ   ان کے والد ( حزن بن ابی وہب ) نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا کہ تمہارا نام کیا ہے؟ انہوں نے بتایا کہ «حزن» ( بمعنی سختی ) ۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ تم «سهل» ( بمعنی نرمی ) ہو، پھر انہوں نے کہا کہ میرا نام میرے والد رکھ گئے ہیں اسے میں نہیں بدلوں گا۔ ابن مسیب رحمہ اللہ بیان کرتے تھے کہ چنانچہ ہمارے خاندان میں بعد تک ہمیشہ سختی اور مصیبت کا دور رہا۔

Narrated Sahl: When Al-Mundhir bin Abu Usaid was born, he was brought to the Prophet who placed him on his thigh. While Abu Usaid was sitting there, the Prophet was busy with something in his hands so Abu Usaid told someone to take his son from the thigh of the Prophet . When the Prophet finished his job (with which he was busy), he said, Where is the boy? Abu Usaid replied, We have sent him home. The Prophet said, What is his name? Abu Usaid said, (His name is) so-and-so. The Prophet said, No, his name is Al-Mundhir. So he called him Al-Mundhir from that day.
