Narrated `Abdullah: I asked the Prophet Which deed is the dearest to Allah? He replied, To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times. I asked, What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, To be good and dutiful to your parents I again asked, What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, 'To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's cause. `Abdullah added, I asked only that much and if I had asked more, the Prophet would have told me more.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْعَيْزَارِ أَخْبَرَنِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنَا صَاحِبُ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى دَارِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، هَذِهِ الدَّارِ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى وَقْتِهَا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَيٌّ ؟ قَالَ : ثُمَّ بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَيٌّ ؟ قَالَ : الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي بِهِنَّ وَلَوِ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي .
ہم سے ابوالولید ہشام بن عبدالملک نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے، انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے ولید بن عیزار کوفی نے خبر دی، کہا کہ میں نے ابوعمر و شیبانی سے سنا، وہ کہتے تھے کہ میں نے اس گھر کے مالک سے سنا، (آپ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کے گھر کی طرف اشارہ کر رہے تھے) انہوں نے فرمایا کہ   میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے پوچھا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی بارگاہ میں کون سا عمل زیادہ محبوب ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اپنے وقت پر نماز پڑھنا، پھر پوچھا، اس کے بعد، فرمایا والدین کے ساتھ نیک معاملہ رکھنا۔ پوچھا اس کے بعد، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کرنا۔ ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے یہ تفصیل بتائی اور اگر میں اور سوالات کرتا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اور زیادہ بھی بتلاتے۔ ( لیکن میں نے بطور ادب خاموشی اختیار کی ) ۔

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him? They said, Not a trace of dirt would be left. The Prophet added, That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, Whenever anyone of you offers his prayer he is speaking in private to his Lord. So he should not spit to his right but under his left foot. Qatada said, He should not spit in front of him but to his left or under his feet. And Shu`ba said, He should not spit in front of him, nor to his right but to his left or under his foot. Anas said: The Prophet said, He should neither spit in the direction of his Qibla nor to his right but to his left or under his foot.
